The siren blared, announcing 2014 had come. All around me, Jenna's guest cheered, and clinked their glasses. I saw her kissing some girl, and felt my cheeks reddening, but as I looked away, I saw that the room was full of couples kissing the year goodbye. I realized I was fifteen and this was a normal thing to do and that I should be doing it as well... Then I realized I was holding his hand. The other guys had taken their kisses, I had seen them do so. Theo just snuggled into my shoulder. His arms were around my waist and I felt so content to stay there forever, but I felt like I had to do something. I unwrapped his arms and spun around to face him as he lifted his head. His eyes met mine and I kept his gaze and saw the realization kick in. He touched my cheek with his hand and pulled me gently closer to his chest. I looked up at him, wondering why he didn't kiss me, and he stared back. I looked down at the floor feeling intimidated. He was so handsome. He took his other hand and lifted my head to look up at him again. He looked at me, and after a while, he nodded. Smoothing my hair, he swept it past my ears, and moved his face closer. I closed my eyes. I had always dreamt of this moment. He pressed his lips against my forehead, and we stayed this way for a few seconds. It was such a simple gesture, but I didn't want it to end. The other couples around us were still sucking face, Jenna and her girlfriend were doing some sort of neck nibbling thing. Theo and I could have had our first kiss, I longed to taste him but I was perfectly content to have gotten this kiss. I knew that Theo wanted us to have a serious relationship and he didn't know if he could control himself enough to stop at just a kiss, so I would wait. I felt his regret once he pulled away. But he stayed hugging me as we waited for the other couples to come up for air. Theo buried his head back into my shoulder, and tightened his arms back around me. It felt like he was trying to keep me from floating away. I smiled at my good fortune and looked up at the ceiling. "Thank you" I sighed. "He is perfect."
