"Well..." I say.
"Tell me, child, why were you crying? Everyone has a story. Jeff got bullied, killed his family. Toby got abused and his sister died, Sally got raped and touched then murdered in a park. What is your story? We are not going to judge you." He says. I sigh.
"I rather not talk about it. At least not yet." I reply. Slender nods, understandingly. I smile gratefully. After a while of haning out, Sally comes running downstairs, crying. Before I can get up she runs up and hugs me. I set her on my lap. "What's wrong?" I ask.
"I had a bad dream." She says, crying.
"Shh, it's ok, it's alright, you're awake now. What was it about?" I ask
"H-him. He came back. He wants to hurt me. Ha-Halley help! He's coming for me!" She screams, burying her face in my sweater.
"Awe, Princess. Who's coming for you?" I ask.
"Him! Uncle Johnny! He's going to finish me off-again!" Her cryings now hysterical. I comfort her, kissing her head and soothingly whispering in her ear that its alright, that I promise nothing's going to happen to her. She calms down. She falls asleep in my arms. I look at her sadly, then sigh. It reminds me of my brother, of how he would do the same for me.
"Something happened when you were younger, didn't it?" Slender asks. I look up, shocked. How'd he...? I shrug.
"I should get her to bed." I reply, leaving the question un answered. I walk upstairs and tuck her in. I go to shut the door and hear her little voice mumble my name. "Yes?" I answer, looking back in.
"Mommy used to sing me lullaby's before bed-do you know any?" She asks. I walk in and sit beside her.
"Yes." I reply.
"Can you sing one to me?" She asks. I sigh, then sing Come Little Children. "Come little children, I'll take thee away, into a land of enchantment, come little children, the times come to play, deep in my garden of shadows. Uh uh uh uh, oh woah oh woah wooo oh woah oh woah oh oh." As I sing the last line, she falls asleep. I kiss her forhead. "Sweet dreams." I whisper, turning to go into the hall. As I make my way into the hall, E.J. is standing there. "Hey, Jack." I say. He nods.
"You have an amazing voice." He says. I smile.
"You heard that?" I ask. Shit. I don't like people hearing me sing.
"Yes." He replies. He smiles. "Are you ashamed or something? You're really good." He says.
"Thanks, I just... I don't like singing infront of people. I reply. He nods understandingly.
"Ah, I see. Well, I'm off to bed. 'Night."
