"Want a beer, sweet cheeks?" Kyle asked.

"Sure, thanks." I responded, nodding.

"And you, Logan?"

"Yeah, that'd be good." Logan said.

Kyle hopped off into the crowd and Logan turned to me.

"So you're new." He stated, "I was too, you know. A bit over a year ago."

"What was it like?" I asked.

"It was fine. The people here are pretty cool. Really welcoming. I can see you've made friends already. With a face like yours, you should be fine."

I blushed again. "Thanks. And yeah, I met some people at school. Can I ask how old you are?"

"I'm 17. You?"

"16 as of Sunday."

"Happy birthday then. So no sign of a mate yet?"

"Nope. You?" I was getting pretty good at keeping this lie up. Every time it became a bit easier to say.

"Um, no." He murmured, lowering his gaze.

I observed this but didn't say anything.

Kyle appeared beside us with drinks in hand.

"For you, sugars. I'm going to off to talk to my friend over there so I'll leave you two to it. Have fun, kids." He gave us a wink and then disappeared as suddenly as he'd appeared.

I blushed a little and looked up to see Logan also had a red tint to his cheeks. Our eyes met and he gave a small smile.

"Want to go for a walk along the beach?" He asked. "The party hasn't really started yet. It will once it gets dark, trust me."

"Yeah, sure." I replied.

We walked down to the ocean and dipped our feet in the beautiful cool, blue water.

"It's so beautiful here." I said, gazing out to the colourful horizon.

He didn't say anything, but he didn't need to.

We began to walk along the shore line.

"Want to play 20 questions?" I asked with a small grin.

Logan smiled back, "Okay. You can go first."

"Who's in your family?" I started off pretty basic.

"Aside from my mum and dad, I have a younger sister called Laura and an older brother called Sam. Also there's my dog, Mina. What about you?"

"I'm an only child so I just live with my mum and dad, plus my black cat, Salem. Your go."

"What's your favourite hobby?"

I considered keeping up the new me facade but I wanted to be honest with him. "I love reading and writing. You?"

"Hockey." He smiled.

I was a little bit surprised. He looked like more  of a football or rugby guy from the outside.

"Okay. Favourite food?"

"I know it's basic, but avocados. What about you?" He told me.

I laughed. "I love hot chips."

"What's the trait you despise most in a person?"

This was a bit of a deeper one, but a certain person quickly came to mind. "I would have to say arrogance. You?"

"Okay. For me it's selfishness."
