Chapter 2

I open my eyes to an environment very different from what I was expecting. I was expecting to see the Vale but instead my eyes meet what appears to be some sort of lab. I make my way through the desks full of people bustling around in important attire and search for someone. I don't know exactly who, but I have a feeling that I'll know when I see them. I reach the glass window at the back of the lab. Inside lays a room with a single cot. On the cot lies a girl who appears to be in her late teens to early twenties. She has dark brown hair the color of bark after a spring rain, and rich green eyes to match. She looks athletic but in a subtle way. She glances over her shoulder and we briefly make eye contact but she quickly looks away.

I continue watching the girl out of curiosity as she continues to talk with the man that has entered the room. He efficiently takes a sample of her blood, and while it appears that know one is looking, he slips her a small book under her blanket. The bang of the door closing as the locks are put back into place shocks me into looking up from the room. What I don't expect is to see the girl in the room, reflected back at me through the glass.

I turn around, ready to leave whatever weird place I've walked into. I quickly walk back the way I came, and narrowly avoid running into a woman, who payed me no mind. I give her an odd look, but continue on my way out, only to feel a rush of wind go through me. I grab my chest as I gasp for air, suddenly unable to breath. I look behind me to see a man dressed in all black, frantically running to the back of the lab. I reach for the table next to me, to balance myself, only for my hand to go through it. This unexpected result sends me crashing through the table and to the floor. I raise my hand in front of my face to find it completely visible, but apparently no one else is able to see me. I race out of the building, past the many hallways that I don't remember going through and finally out the front doors. Only to realize that I'm back in the Vale. I frantically turn around hoping to return to the lab. No matter how bad it may have seemed, it couldn't be worse than this world. But when I look behind me there's nothing there.

I am once again, all alone.
