"You can't kill us. You wouldn't. Everybody would know that it was you. You won't win." My voice shook with fear. I didn't know what to do at this point. It's not like we could run or call anybody. We had no way out of the dark and cold basement.
"Yes, I very well can kill you. I will if I need to. So you should probably keep your mouth shut from now on. Or else I could just walk over here," he said with mysteriously as he walked toward Harper and Hayden. They started to cry with fear.
"Don't you dare even touch them. Don't hurt them. Leave them be. If you are going to hurt anybody, hurt me." He turned his head. He moved way too close to me. I could smell the horrible garlic stench wafting from his mouth.
"Maybe I will hurt you," the demon retorted. He pressed the cold silver knife against my cheek. He slowly dragged the sharp edge down the side of my face. I shook with pain and fear as the blood ran down my body and seeped into my clothes. The gash was now open to the harsh environment that was covered in dust-and-dirt coated concrete. "Now, it's time for your one meal of the day. But how would you know what the difference between day and night is," he said with a growing smirk on his face. The monster turned his grin into a serious look, with a hint of joy. It was like he enjoyed watching us suffer. He turned his back to me, grinned at Harper and Hayden, and then went up the staircase.
Once I heard the door lock, I looked straight at them. "Are you guys okay," I asked quizzically.
They couldn't even reply with words. They each nodded their heads in agreement, but I could see that they had worry in their eyes. "Alright, if you guys really need to eat whatever he brings down, nod at me so that I can try it first just in case it is poisoned. I know that he wouldn't, but you can never be too careful."
That was the last sentence that our mom said before we went to the park. I can remember it exactly: "Make sure that you are close to them at all time so you can watch them. You can never be too careful." I was watching them. I was watching so close. He just didn't know that. Before I knew it, he had grabbed Harper and Hayden was running after him screaming. I heard him and I watched that monster throw both of them in the backseat of his car. They were both screaming my name out of the windows. "Hope! Hope!" I saw him pull out a knife, yell something at them, and they sat down in tears. I jumped in my car and drove as fast as I possibly could. I followed the car all the way to the house. He got out of his car, ran towards me as I got out of my car. He started to throw punches towards my head until he knocked me out. Next thing I knew, I was sitting in a cold, dark, and bloody concrete basement. All three of us were chained by one of our wrists to the walls. Harper and Hayden were on the opposite side from me.
He came down the stairs with two bowls, one spoon in one and two spoons in the other. The bowls were filled with what looked like pale chunky vomit. Harper and Hayden nodded at me, signaling that they needed to eat, even though it looked appalling. That's how I knew that they were starving because I didn't even want to eat that. It looked worse than usual. Typically, it was a warm mush that looked decent. This gross glob was way worse. The cold stuff is the worst. Then again, they haven't eaten in days. When you are down here, you lose track of time.
"Eat this or starve because who knows when you will get food next," he demanded.
"Fine. But you should eat some too. Just so we know that we can eat it," I declared with a hint of sarcasm.
"I'm not eating this crap! Are you crazy?!" He threw my bowl right at my face. The glass shattered and ripped my skin open. The blood was starting to seep out again. I wanted to cry, but I kept my tears into stay strong for Harper and Hayden. He knew. I could see it on his face.
"What is your problem! You just love to torture people, don't you! You and your despicable mind! Maybe you should get some help before you get arrested," I said, knowing what was going to happen.
