The sun slowly tore the sky, breaking the night into day. The people inside the house bustled through their chores in increasing panic, chasing time.

A man in his late fifties was wiping the dust from the old grey sedan with as much care and regard as a groom to his new bride. A girl in a high school uniform came out with a sling bag across her body, her hands busy with the keypad of her cellphone. The middle-aged woman inside frantically searched for her shoes. Her short salt-and-pepper hair was plastered on her head fresh from the shower. Another woman, in her mid-twenties and slightly heavier inbuilt, was sipping her coffee while watching her mother in amusement. Finding what she's looking for, the older woman dashed to the door with her backpack, laptop bag, packed lunch, and slip-on. She was about to close the door behind her when she heard the tick-tick-ticking sound from the ceiling. She looked up for a moment then smiled.

"Better ask Aling Adira to clean up well, Kat!" She called to her eldest.

"Okay." Her daughter responded in understanding. She too looked up the ceiling.

"Kiss Storm for me," were her mother's parting words as she closed the door behind her.

"I will!" Came the reply. "Be careful on the road, you guys!" Katriona shouted through the window.

The older woman did not look back but waved her hand in acknowledgment.

Inside the car, Ella turned to her husband with a grin. "Drop by the marketplace on your way back," she told him.

"Why?" Mateo asked.

"It's daytime and the lizards are noisy."

"Oh? " The man slowly nodded his head.

"We're going to have company!" His wife smiled meaningfully.
