The soft sound of rain pattered as thunder roared throughout. The stomping of footsteps through small puddles echoed through the barren town. No one was out, all had retreated from the rain, or were already asleep. The footsteps soon stopped in front of a old building, the wood was soaking wet since it wasn't stained. The figure stepped onto the long porch stretching over the front of the building, the wood bowed down and creeked. A small sign hung over head, reading out the word 'PUB' in a bold and fancy font, colored in a olive green. The sounds of drunks yelling and gambling could, but it all stopped as the figure opened the door, all went silent.

Many watched in aw as the unknown man walked in, they were dressed in a long ragged cloak, covering them from their head to their knees, the color was of the night sky, with dark violet embroidery on the bottom of the back. They had boots which reached to the tips of their knees, they were a navy blue color with golden laces down the back. The mysteryious man walked to the bar counter, it took a minute for the bartender to realize that the man wanted a drink.

He walked over and asked him, "Would ya' like a beer?"

The man responded swiftly and precisely, "No thank you, I only would like a glass of water."

The figure replied setting a single copper enchin on the counter, the bartender took it and went to get a glass. Only murrmers filled the pub, the noice before ceased to exist. The bartender came back with a glass of water the figure took it a drank it, leaving only half of it in the glass.

"So what brings ya' to this side of the kingdom?" The bar ender asks trying to break the uneasy silence.

"Just passing through." The stranger said grabbing the glass by its rim and lightly swirling the contents around, before chugging the rest and leaving.
Out following him went a small group of men.

                             . . .

Through the alleys they went following the cloaked figure. The movements of these stranger were swift and prewsaid,.  They turned one more time to a dead end, the stranger no were to be found. The men were baffled, till out of the sky came falling the stranger, they landed on one man and knocked the wind out of him. Before the others could react the stranger attacked kicking them both to the ground. The stranger stood in silence and left.

They continued to walk along the streets, the rain had stopped and all that was left was the smell a a few gray clouds painted across the dark night sky. More people were out now, the night sky slowly turned orange as the sun krept up behind the mountains creating a beautiful scene. The streets became busy as the stranger hurried through the crowds. Then they froze along with the traffic as a bloodcurdling scream was let out. The stranger flicked back their head to see a gigantic beast attacking the town. I had a body of black fur that shined in the sun, its back legs were of the same fur like those of a black bear, but its front legs were that of a falcon's, its head was that of a falcon's too,  it had one red eye, the other was closed with a scar covering it. It had wings of a bat that stretched out as the beast let out a deafening screech.

The figure rushed to the scene, when they got there all that there was was destruction.

He looked around for any survivors, and spotted a little girl. The stranger rushed over to see her holding the hand of a woman. The woman's body was crushed under a peice of fallen building. "Mommy! Don't leave mommy, you can't leave mommy!" The girl sobbed. The woman reached with the last of her strength and touched the little girl on the cheek. With her last breath she said, "Stay strong for me... my angel..." With that her arm went limp and her soul left the body, leaving behind her daughter. As her spirit drifted away her daughter screamed out in pain as if someone was stabbing her straight through the head.

Boom! Boom! Boom! The beast was swiftly moving the girl's way. The man ran and grabbed the girl right before the beast could step on her. He ran towards where the towns people where fleeing and told her to follow them. He quickly ran back.

The monster looked at the figure. "You have an interesting soul for a human." Let out the beast. The man quickly ran to the beast and jumped high enough to land on his head, he bit the skin off his thumb and procceded to put a rune on the beast's forasked,. He chanted a spell in the old language and the blood rune began to glow. The beast screeched in pain as his body shrank into the form of a human's.

"What did you do to me?!" He yelled on his hands and knees.

The figure looks back as he removed the hood of his cloak, to reveal their long black hair, a little black cat ears and eyes of red, under those eyes were triangle shaped marks of a deep red color. The figure began to speak, "I sealed away your power, you will never be able to use it again until the day I see fit. You may accompany me on my journey to earn back your powers. If not you may come find me someday in the future and show to me you have earned back your powers." The girl turned around and started to walk. The creature struggled to catch up behind her, as soon as he did he asked, "What is your name?"

And all she replied with was.

"Hotaru."

Author's Note: Hey guys! Tommy here! And I'm so happy to release the first chapter of Nifly. It was so hard to write since I kept changing things and deleting the whole thing at times, but this is the final product! The name Hotaru I'm pretty sure is a dude's name but I thought it would be good since it means darkness and despair. So thanks for reading the first chapter of Nifly and I hope you read the next one too. (When it comes out that is)
