John's POV

Alexander Hamilton used to be in my elementary school. But, then he left. No one really knew why. Rumors were spread that his father had been very... mean... to him, his brother and his mom. So much that they were forced to moved.

5 years ago (5th grade)

"Hi Alex!", I greeted, running towards my friend. He smiled his bright, light up a room smile. But, it looked forced. He had a large bruise on his leg, which I bet he thought nobody would notice.

"Hi John.", he replied. It was silent. Everyone around us, Lafayette, Mulligan, Angelica, Eliza, Aaron and Peggy were quiet. "Is something wrong?", I asked. Lafayette buried his face in Mulligan. "Nope, nothing's wrong.", Alex replied, popping the "P".

"Oh please, don't lie. Look, John, Alex is moving back to the Caribbean since his dad is a a-", Angelica scolded. Eliza covered her mouth before she could curse. Alexander glared at her. "Yeah... what she said.", he said. I felt my heart drop. I felt a stinging on my eyes and I panicked. I can't cry in front of him! He wouldn't cry in front of me!

"Why didn't you tell me?", I asked. "John...". "Y-you... Why didn't you tell me?!", I screamed, running away. Alex looked like he was going to run but, Eliza held him back. Well, I'm not mad since he has this problem with breathing. I think it was Lung... Cancar? I can't remember.

All I know is... the next day, he was gone.

Present day

My life without Alex had been pretty miserable. I mean, not very but, it still was. My father began to come home drunk and beat up me and my siblings, until we begged him to stop. God knows what he did to my other siblings but, I had gotten it pretty bad. He wouldn't go easy on me. He'd beat me up until I was a pulp, almost worthy of a hospital.

I was relieved after the next piece of news as I sat down, wincing at my new bruises.

There was this 28 year old in town and I heard rumors he adopted a kid. I got excited at that. What if it was Alex?

Alex's POV

I've heard tales of orphans. Most become huge superheroes, fighting with powers and more.

But, I was no hero. In fact, I thought that I was powerless. I'm able to be thrown to a relative's home forever without my consent. I can handle myself. What's the point of not letting me?

'They'll give up when they see the medical bills.', I thought. But, I then realized it. The person adopting me, my cousin, was a lawyer. That's the thought that stayed in my mind as I opened the door.

It revealed an extremely handsome young man. But, I wouldn't fall for it. I knew what he was like the moment he had closed the door and I was alone with him. The man took a step forward.

I backed up and searched for his name. A name tag read, 'Eric'. I gulped. "S-Sir.", I stuttered. I mentally cursed himself. Well, the curse worked. Eric took a step forward and then I was up against a wall. "Listen, we're going to have to set some rules. 1- Never ever go into my room unless you want to see... things. 2- Don't be too loud.". I gulped, I talk a lot.

"3- You better not cry or whine. 4- Get home by 4:20. Or else. 5- If you want your medication, I recommend that you follow these rules. Got it?", my cousin finished. I nodded. He must've seen the mischievous glint in my eyes when I did that because, he punched me multiple times. And the more I cried, the more he did.

I began to taste the blood pooling in my mouth.  "Go unpack.", Eric said. I sighed and nodded. "Good. I swear, you're just like your mother. Idiotic and a cheater at life.", he said. I felt my temper rise.

"Don't talk about her like th-!", I was interrupted by a slap to my already bruised cheek. "Rule number 2.", he said, walking away.

The next day (It was just him packing after... that)

Nobody's POV

John walked in the school the next day, looking for his friend group. He found them. It had stayed the same. Lafayette, Mulligan, Angelica, Eliza, Aaron and Peggy. He walked over to them and they talked. They seemed to rant about random topics until suddenly there was silence. The sound of Jefferson and his crew slyly making their way towards someone was heard. John moved to get a closer look. The boy he saw was breathtaking, to say the least. He had dark brown hair and hazel eyes that shined like the moon. He was extremely skinny. We could basically see his bones. He also had what John recognized to be an inhaler in his pocket.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Alexander Hamilton.", Jefferson taunted. "Back from that island I suppose?". Alex didn't respond as he just walked to his Homeroom. Jefferson didn't take that well as, he right away chased after the boy. Alexander just stared at him. "At a loss for words, that's a first.", Jefferson said, blocking Alex's path. Alex was extremely short so he stood on his toes to look over Jefferson. He caught eyes with John and went back down. He walked around him and finally got to his classroom. It was silent. "Was that really..", John asked. His friend group all nodded.

He strangely enough, had the same homeroom as Alex. He walked in and saw the boy staring at his fingers, taking careful breaths. He sat down next to him. "Hi Alex!", he greeted. Alex looked at him and smiled. "H-Hi J-John.", he whispered. "You alright?", he asked. He nodded and stayed silent. "Wanna hang out with the guys and girls tonight?", John invited. "Sure, I guess.", Alex said. He turned away from John and took deep breathes.

The bell rang and John saw him walk towards Gym. He also had that class with him... weird. Alexander calmly handed the teacher a note and the teacher stared at him for a second before motioning him to go sit in the nurse's office. John got curious. He scratched his knee with his sharp nail. "Excuse me? Mrs. Diggs? Can I go to the nurse?", he asked, pointing at his knee.

The teacher nodded and John walked there. He saw Alexander talking to Aaron Burr. John stood outside the door and listened. "So how are you?", Aaron asked. "Fine, I guess.". Aaron raised an eyebrow. "You seem more like me. Reserved.", Aaron said. Alex chuckled. That caused him to have to take a deep breath. "Yeah, I guess so.".

"I heard you got adopted by that new lawyer?", Aaron asked. Alex nodded. "Mhm.". They sat in awkward silence before John decided to walk in. "Lady, I cut my knee.", he told the nurse. "Again, Laurens?", the nurse asked. John smiled. He always came here. They had a bond.

He sat next to Aaron and applied the bandage. "Oh, hello, Alex and Aaron. Fancy seeing you here!". Aaron nodded at him and Alex did too. "Wait a second.. Alex? As in Alexander Hamilton?", the nurse asked. Alex muttered a "Mhm.". "Wow! Remember me, Mrs. Soo?", she asked. Alex brightened. "Oh, hi! Does Lin still work here?", he asked. "Yeah! He teaches... History I think.", she replied, never losing her smile. "Awesome! I'll see him at 5th period.", he said. They talked more. John caught a glimpse at Alex's schedule. He realized he had all of his Day 1 and Day 2 classes with Alexander. (In my school, they do alternating days. Day 1 would be Gym and Italian for example and Day 2 Chorus and Academic Exploration or something.). "Hey, we have the same exact schedule", John said. Alex popped up. "Really? That's awesome!", he said, in a whisper.

He smiled back. And then the day went on as planned. They all went out at the end of school. But, Alex seemed frantic when he checked the time. "G-gotta go.", he said, he ran out, grabbing his stuff. He left a leather book behind. John picked it up and reminded himself to give it to him later.

I know it's rushed but, it's  12:40 and I have to wake up at 5 for school tomorrow since I take a long time to shower.
