The warm and luminous sun shot down bright rays onto the Catholic school of Canewood, a small town just south of Oceanside, California. The temperature was very high; however, all the Sports teams were practicing. Even in the plus ninety weather the principle refused to give the athletes a break, for the only reason Canewood was known, was because of their stellar sports programs. The football team sat on the field resting. They had been practicing for two hours, and still had one hour remaining.
"Alright, everyone up!" Demanded the head coach. His name was Gary Roth. Gary was notorious for working any sport he coaches to their breaking point. Under any normal circumstances he would be unemployed. The only problem is, he was the son of the principle.
"They've only had five minutes." Replied Jennifer, the medical trainer and nun.
"Did I ask for your opinions Jennifer? I don't think so! Now everyone up." Gary shouted. The majority of the team groaned in disapproval, yet they abided because they knew there would be great punishment if even one person disobeyed. After all except one had stood up, the coach realized Jackson, his least enthusiastic player was laying on the grass.
"What did I say Douglas?" Gary bellowed and Jackson.
"I feel sick." He responded.
"Well you should have said something before we continued with practice! Now everyone is going to run around the basketball courts ten times! Doubles for you Douglas!"
"I'm not joking coach Roth, I might throw up!"
"I don't give a damn if you choke on your vomit as long as your running!" Gary said as he angrily approached Jackson. At the sight of this he quickly rose to his feet and joined the rest of the boys who had just started running. He quickly began his laps, making sure Gary was not still following him. It was not unusual for him to abuse his athletes, especially Jackson. Although it was reasonable to assume Gary would be fired if the principle was confronted about his abuse, it would be the principle's son's word against the players. It is also worth mentioning that it was forbidden to use phones not only during practice, but at school in general. Therefore, there could be no evidence of the abuse taking place.
Jackson was on his fourth time around the court and he still had a burning urge to vomit. His head was aching and his teammates were yelling crude phrases at him. His vision became blurry and he started slowing down. His mind was spinning and he could not move or talk, to yell for help or plead for assistance. His running became a cross-legged stagger and he stumbled to the ground collapsing without warning.
When he woke he was in a place he did not recognize. He was lying on a bed surrounded by four plain white walls with a window covering the center of one wall, and a desk opposite the window. Other than the desk and the bed the only other item he could see in the room was a cross. Was he in the convent. No way. He had been in the convent before and this definitely was not it. He sat up on the edge of the bed and wondered where he could be. It would have made since to come to the conclusion that he was inside of the convent. Safe. Away from the scorching sun. Best of all, away from Gary. The blinds of the window were closed and he could not see through the slivers to the outside, so he decided that he would open the blinds and assure him of what he already thought he knew. He knew he was in the convent. He had to be. There was the protective feeling about it he always felt when inside, but at the same time there was a feeling in his gut telling him to run. Get out! It isn't safe! You need to leave now! Jackson began to panic. How would have those thoughts if he was in a holy place surrounded by over ten nuns. After he had collected his thoughts he decided it was time for him to get up and look outside. He was about to get up when three nuns walked into the room. He recognized two of them. One was sister Anne. The other sister Abigail. The third sister however he did not recall the name of.
"Hello," Jackson said towards the sisters... there was no response. Again he called hello to them and again there was quiet. Sister Anne and Abigail looked sad, but the last sister had a neutral look. A look that did not seem comforting, yet at the same time did not seem harmful. After trying to talk with the sisters multiple times he decided he would just continue with his plan.
He stood and and walked over the window and opened the blinds. From where he was he could see his school, the field, and the parking lot. Now he was certain he was inside of the convent. The only problem. He was on the second story of the convent. The convent did not have a second story. If the convent was only one floor, how could he be on the second? Again, Jackson became puzzled. There is no second floor, yet he was on the second floor. How? He turned away from the window in hope that he could get the nuns to recognize his presence; however, when he turned around the nuns were no longer in the room and on the bed he noticed someone. There was a person laying on the bed, and that person was Jackson.
