Piper
As Felix holds me there on the rooftop, I remember a poem from my childhood that I thought for sure to be forgotten in my mind. It was a poem that my mother read to me every night before I would soundly drift asleep. That is, every night before she was gone. Most of the time, I would never hear all of the last verse.
Safely in my arms I hold you near,
I will never let go of you, my dear.
Even if the world crumbles under our toes,
You are as precious to me as an everlasting rose.
Never wilting, your love is pure,
And as yours I will...
When those words poured out of my mother's mouth, I felt nothing but the warm feeling of being cared for inside. When we held each other on top of that building, I felt that same feeling once again.
However, I could never tie the last line of that poem together. I tried everything that I could to make it happen, and it just wouldn't work. God only knows what those last few words are.
Felix and I let go of each other and we walk over to the edge of the roof and sit next to one another. Neither of us say any words because we both know if one of us speaks, the other person will have to. I want to sit there silently and guess what he is thinking, and for him to guess what I'm thinking. A new game.
Hopefully he lost the game, because there is only one thing on my mind now, and I feel like a back-stabber.
All I can think about is Micah.
How I wished to protect him. How much I went through to find him here.
How much he cares for me. How he confessed his.....
I am shaken awake by Felix, who I have apparently dozed off onto. I lift my head off of his chest and prop myself up onto my arms.
"Thought you would rather like a much more comfortable bed," he yawns.
Laughing, I answer, "You would be correct. Let's head back downstairs."

Micah
"Where are we?" I ask Levi as we approach a set of doors that I have never seen yet in the compound.
Opening one of the doors, he tells me, "This is where all of the trainers stay and do whatever trainers do."
Inside there is a large room, which I suspect is a sitting area. There are a few couches set around a large wooden table in the center of the room. On the couches, trainers are hunched over in an array of different sitting positions carefully listening to the words of a man sitting on the center couch. It is the same man that I saw with Olivia a few nights ago. He stops speaking and his cold, blue eyes meet mine. Every other trainer is aware of his sudden absence and also look in my direction.
"Ladies and gents. They're here."
Levi and I exchange a questioning glance as the man inquires the other trainers about our arrival. He stands up, flattening the creases left on the back of his black pants with his hands. He promptly walks over to the two of us, a sly smile forged onto his face. Holding out a pale hand to the two of us, he offers for us to shake it.
"Hello, boys. My name is Finn, and you will be referring to me as your commander," he shakes both of our hands firmly, then turns to the other trainers, "These two are Levi Perthon and Micah Descathy."
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Olivia leaning against the far-right wall. This question was aimed directly to her, and not to the man standing in front of me, "May I ask, what in the hell is going on right now?"
Olivia pushes herself off of the wall and walks around next to Finn. She leans up against him in a way that they were perfectly balancing each other. They were both one as a whole.
"Micah, Levi, all of the trainers and I have decided that you two are exceptional Nightdogs. We did an analysis of your records and times, we even checked some of your background. You two have the best qualities, and records, in this whole compound."
She stops speaking and Finn takes over, "Levi, your strength is by far the strongest we have seen in this place for a while. You have the ambiance of a warrior, and we crave for that kind of spirit in these times."
Levi stands as stiff as a brick. His emotionless expression tells me that he can care less about their compliments.
"Micah, not only are your qualities reeling, but your past is too. One of the reasons why you are here right now, is that we want to know the facts. We want to know what really happened to Camden. He will never be missed here, he was a great man." Olivia bows her head in reverence for my deceased brother.
Why do they keep bringing this up?! I can't keep living when all everyone does is bring up the past!
Levi breaks the cold silence, "So, what is the whole purpose that you brought us here? Not to mention the reason for that painfully cliché speech of yours?"
"Ah, I hoped that someone would ask that," Finn holds up a long finger," Starting today, you two are trainers. That meaning, you will relocate to this training room with the rest of us. This is your new home."
The trainers sitting behind us rouse up a fuss with their pounding fists and piercing howls. The look of excitement on their faces disgust me. I however could not feel more indifferent if I tried.
They're just waiting for my execution.
