|Chapter 1|

Kankri smiles as he holds onto the railing of the ship he is situated upon, watching the waves splash against the hull and smelling the saltiness in the air. "Isn't this spectacular? The salty sea air...the wind rushing through your hair...! It's a marvellous day to be at sea!"

A woman groans from beside him as she soon straightens herself and wipes her mouth, her face pale from the sea sickness she's experiencing. "Ah...yes...absolutely delightful..."

Kankri just rolls his eyes at the woman and becomes curious as a sailor speaks, looking over to catch onto his words. "A fine strong wind, plus a following sea. Must mean King Dualscar is in a friendly mood today"

"King Dualscar?" Kankri asks in confusion, walking towards the sailor who laughs a bit, "Why, he's the ruler of the mertrolls, Prince. Thought every good sailer would know about the legendary tale of 'im of course!"

"Mertrolls? Oh there's no such thing, Rufioh" The woman scowls, glaring a bit, "Don't listen to this nonsense Kankri"

"It ain't nonsense Porrim! I'm telling the truth! I'm telling you, they live in the depths of the ocean!" Rufioh says, glaring a bit in return as Kankri smiles nervously.

The two start to bicker with one another and Kankri sighs, unbeknownst to him of the very real aquatic kingdom below the surface of the sea.

A colourful fish swims right past the boat and catches up with the rest of its school, the said school of fish shining as the suns rays pass through the water.

"Hurry hurry! King Dualscar's going to show his children again!" One of the fish say excitedly, chatter around them as mertrolls of every colour and horn shape begin to swim towards the golden kingdom before them. King Dualscar's mertroll kingdom.

Inside, many mertrolls, fish and other sea creatures alike gathered in the main show room, each and every one of them excited to see their King's 8 children. Everyone was soon silence as a seahorse entered, clearing their throat before speaking.

"Ahem...his royal highness, King Dualscar!"

Dualscar swims into view of the crowd and everyone begins to cheer, the King waving with a grin and soon taking his place in the balcony above. "And presenting the distinguished court composer, the one, the only, Karkat Vantas!"

A crab soon enters with an almost shy grin, only receiving a mild applause from the crowd as he soon joins Dualscar's side for a moment. "I'm really looking forward to this performance, Karkat. I trust that it will be as fantastic as you say"

"Oh, yeah, this will be the fucking greatest concert I have ever conducted for as long as I have lived my life as a crustaceous creature! Your children are going to look...uh...spectacular for this event!" Karkat says, even laughing a bit nervously since he has to speak so formally.

Dualscar nods with a warm smile, relaxing back in his seat as his tail swishes from side to side slowly. "Yes, and especially my dear son Cronus"

"Yes, yes, he has the most amazing voice..." He says, soon mumbling to himself, "If only he'd actually fucking show up for rehearsals for once"

He takes a deep breath as he soon scuttles down to the podium below, raising his claws a signal for the band to be ready to play. He soon begins to move his claws and music sounds from the band, mertrolls suddenly swimming into view with smiles on their faces as they begin to sing.

"Ah, we are the children of Dualscar, great father who loves us and named us well: Eridan, Roxy, Rose, Meenah, Feferi~!" They smile and swim amongst one another, dancing to the crowd. A shell arises from beneath the stage, coloured a beautiful violet.
