The Pan Curse

Year after year,

age upon age,

time shall keep your heart ablaze,

wrapped in endless, mindless rage,

never to love another soul,

memories lost on a fateful stroll,

raze your hopes with the first toll,

then with the second your heart she stole,

danced, she danced with it close to the edge,

cold were the waters beneath the ledge,

the third toll marked the end of your love

and ripped, still beating, from your chest,

the thing that kept the beast at bay,

the thing that kept this curse away,

fire now runs through your veins,

in time with the moon, it waxes and wanes,

no saints will help you now the rope has been unbound,

you hunt for her with bloodied feet across the hallow'ed ground

until she breaks this age old curse,

your soul's condition will only grow worse,

the beast within your heart now roams,

till you pick your teeth with lover's bones

or tame the beast with ropes and stones.
