Chapter one - New everything
"We are here, do you like it? My uncle Jasper said by turning off the engine of the car. Outside was the house that now I had to call home after leaving mine. It was hard to think that my mom was long gone now and that I had to start a new life in a place that I didn't want to live.
Everything seemed so dull, and it was wintertime, the trees had no leaves at all, there was not even snow to cover the town, at least something worth looking at, you know? Winter is not my season, but I guess there's something about snow that gives me peace; how is so soundproof, everything seems more calm and serene.
"It's nice," I offered lamely; I needed to lie at that moment because I knew that my uncle was grieving too, also the fact that now he's taking care of me, I mean until this point he didn't have any responsibilities and now one of them is a full teenage girl.
"There are two rooms beside mine, so you can pick the one that suits you better, " He replied.
I appreciate everything he's been doing for me; I never got to see him that often; he was always so secretive and never talked that much. My mom always used to say that he probably was a secret agent and maybe had a family we didn't know about, but I was little, and she probably loved to see my face as she always used to tell me stories and exaggerate them from time to time, it was her character.
''Thanks, uncle Jasper," I replied. He looked tired; I mean, he practically took care of the funeral and the moving.
"You can call me Jasper, and don't worry," Its gonna take a while for me to feel comfortable, but what else is there? This is my reality now.
The house was white and had a massive yellow tree next to the entrance; it was kinda beautiful, to say the least.
After my mom died, everything collided, my house, my friends, even my Ex-boyfriend Dylan; I couldn't hold the relationship together. I was a wreck.
She died two weeks ago in the middle of the night, she was coming back from her friend's birthday party, supposedly the driver on the other side was drunk, and he hit her, kinda cliche right. The court sent the bastard to jail. I remember how everyone kept telling me how sorry they were. It's incredible how your life can change from a day to another, and to realize you're utterly alone, it's even more challenging. It was two months ago, and it still hurts like hell every day, I always talk to them, and I like to think she can hear me.
I started to walk to my new supposedly home, but I couldn't shake the feeling like someone was watching me; I turned around, but I couldn't see anyone. I guess my head is playing tricks on me; it's been a long day.
I got inside, and there was a fireplace with some french doors leading to a garden; it was cozy. I kinda liked the vibe of the place, but it was too clean, like new almost. I walked upstairs, and the wall beside me was full of pictures, Jasper and my mom, him on vacations alone and me when I was little; it took me back a little bit. I never saw that picture before.
I was upstairs trying to decide which room I wanted. Ultimately, I took the one with the balcony, even though it was smaller than the other one, but I didn't care about the space. There was a bed, and that was it; I started to take all of the things I had and organize my new life or at least my clothes.
Some time passed. I didn't have anything organized, but I couldn't stop overthinking many things; I needed to clear my mind. I was searching for the living room when I heard Jasper talking on his cell phone.
'' I don't want her involved in this, you heard me, " He sounded so angrily.
I was super confused because he genuinely looked upset. I sauntered towards the window to hear clearly what he was talking about. Still, being me, I stumbled into the table without realizing it, crashing into the floor and creating a considerable noise.
