He contiued to stare at me, pointlessly. His teeth looked sharper then usual. His hands quivered as he held up the slice, still not blinking. Is he even human? I asked myself.
His eyes looked big, and polished, round, and shiny, but creepy like an old baby doll, such as the dolls around him. His smile wreathed, the cake dropped to the floor, with only a quiet flop to break the silence.
Still not breaking eye contact, he said "Ill get some more cake." in a honeyed voice. He stepped back, squishing the pile of mushed cake on the solid grounds, and opened the door, his shark like eyes still not blinking away from mine. I layed back, breathing in, and out, my chest giving off a near to silent heart beat in my ear drums. "Im never getting out of this.." I sighed in exhaustion.
A clicking noise awoke my senses. "Click" Like a lock was being picked.
The medal that tightened against the dead skin on my wrists and feet all the sudden busted open slowly.
I wriggled my arms, and legs. I stretched out my back as the bones made popping, and cracking noises, then jumping onto my feet, still sitting on the medal wheel, I looked down at my boney hands, flinching to the sound of voices.
"Jessi" "Jessi..." "Come here.." "Look at me."
My eyes immediately moved to the blank, darkened, hallway infront of me where a lady that seemed only a year or two younger then me, crouched into a pitch black corner shyly. I looked over to the door.
The man didnt come back yet.
I brung my eyes slowly back to hers. "He'll be back any minute...what'd you want?" I complained tautly.
"Take my hand." her face showed no expression, she stepped into view, her eyes gloomy, naughted hair dangling off her shoulders, and a white dress swept below her knee's where flowers were sewn. "Wh-what?" I asked as she held her hand out.I stepped forward with caution, raising my hand up to meet with hers that was dead cold. She gave a friendly smile. "Im here to save you."
The man burst through the door in confusion and rage. "Marionette??" his head swaying left, and right. He marched toward us, the womens hands grasped mine tightly. "Run!" she gasped as we swept through the dirty carpets, and blood stained walls. As we made a turn her fingers disappeared into the wallpaper. "Are you ali-"
"Shhh.." she hushed. "Ill explain things later!" now saying it in a scolding manner. It felt like I was floating as I stepped into a bright light, my other hand shielding my eyes. My feet slipped off the floor, my back arched. With a wild shake I flung to my knees, the light dimming. "You can open your eyes now." she said in a dead voice. I opened my eyes to a blank canvas. "Any questions before we leave?"
"Erm, yes.." I said shuffling my feet. "Who exactly are you?"She seemed very uncomfortable by that question so I added "If you dont mind.." very quickly so she didnt get offended. She straightened up. "Im Emily Waynes. I too was torchered by the man.." I nodded. "Have some food..you must be starving! Though we dont have much time.." My heart gave one last thud, and sunk to my stomach as she said those words. She snapped her fingers, and a steaming cup of tea, chicken, corn, mash potatoes, and cake appeared before me. "Right then" she continued. "Your quite lucky actually. Your one of the few that managed survival. He was much worse back then though." shuttering at the thought, then pausing for my reaction. My eyebrows drooped to show her my concern as I filled my mouth with a bit of everything.
"How long has he done this?" I asked curiously. "Oh I dont know..years and years. If he hadnt of killed me, I wouldve been 30. I was only 14 when it all happened." It felt like id been punched in the stomach as I thought of my family. "Is my mum and dad ok?" I asked. "Please tell me their ok.."
All the chicken, corn, tea, and mash potatoes were gone, only small portions of crumbs littered the plates, while I only started eating the cake. "Follow me" Emily said.
I pushed myself off the floor where we started walking against the blank page. The white melted into a burst of colors that swirled around like a vortex with a slight boom and pop!
She gave me an assuring look as I pressed my toes through the whirlpool. Air brushed against my skin as more of me entered.
Everything was black and white like an old movie on the television. There was a police officer, then my parents appeared at the desk. My father held my mother in his arms as she sobbed uncontrollably into her moist hands. "Noone has reported seeing Jessi or Christopher Rubin. Im sure their alright. We'll just have to keep looking. I am truly sorry, I know its not easy. We've put banners up all over the city. Dead or alive they'll show up any day now, I assure you." My mother sniffled. "Thank you, Officer."
"No problem, Ms. We'll give you a call." The officer told them, as my family walked off.Emily flicked her fingers, the color sucked into the blank canvas like the victim of a vacuum. "Anything else?" she asked as I stood there shocked.
The sound of a big clock going off sounded the room as I shook furiously in the air. "Ahh shoot! I know, I know.." Emily whined. "No more, no more. We've got to go!"
No finger snapping, no vortex, we just appeared at the top of a big city, standing on the edge of a building that almost reached the puffy clouds. Emily looked up at me, cuffing her hands. "Have this." she opened her hands like a treasure chest that showed a pearly necklace, a glowing seashell hanging by it. "Blow on the horn if you need me. You are now on your own."
"But miss-"
"Jump."
