My feet pounded the crumbling cement, turning it to dust underneath my once-white tennis shoes. I had to get out of the cramped apartment, away from my parents, away from my memories. Away from my new little sister. Ugh.

'Why do I have a little sister?' I thought, 'Why is she illegal? Is it that wrong to have another child?' Of course, as soon as I started questioning everything, it brought on a flood of thoughts. 'Why is everything completely militarized? Why do I have to go to military school?' My thoughts rose in intensity as my feet kept slamming on the pavement. They whirled around my head, making me want to scream.

Th sky was starting to get dark. Dark is dangerous, so I decided to head back home. As soon as I stepped in the door, the smell of disinfectant made me gag.

I ran to the kitchen to grab something to eat. I was just hurrying back down the hallway when I heard my parents talking.

"What will we do? I'm scared?" my mom's voice floated down to me, just daring me to eavesdrop. Hearing the tone of her voice, my sister started crying. My mom shushed her. I took a step back, right onto a creaking floorboard. Crap.

"Noah?" Mom called. I walked into her room, looking sheepish. She looked weak,lying down all alone on her bed. Not alone. With the baby. A certain radiance shone out of her, holding the baby in her arms. It made me wonder, Did she look like that when she had me?

"Noah. Meet Kennedy," she whispered. Kennedy waved her little fist. And I smiled.
