"Logan, I'm sorry! Tera wanted me to pick her up this morning. It was last minute and I forgot to call you." Josh rambles in my ear as we make our way to our usual booth for lunch. Luckily, his bitchy girlfriend doesn't have the same lunch hour as us, so I get to hang out with him. Still, she seems to be here considering how much Josh talks about her.
I roll my eyes and slide into my side of the booth. Josh sits on the edge of his seat uncomfortably while he waits for a response from me. But, as I open my mouth, three people walk up to the table. I only look up slightly, but I know exactly who it is: Tera, her "BFF," April and April's boyfriend, Charlie. April clings to his arm like a child, but Charlie seems disinterested as he texts someone on his phone. I notice April leaning up on her toes, trying to see who he's texting.
I roll my eyes and look up at Tera who is standing at the edge of the table. Her blonde hair was in a fishtail braid, thrown to the side on her shoulder. She was wearing heels, though I don't understand why anyone would need to wear heels at school. I decided against questioning it."What are you doing here, dyke?" Tera spats, glaring down at me. I give her a quizzical look, trying to overlook the whole "dyke" thing. I don't understand why she asked, I'm sure Josh has talked about me. Right?
"Dude, Josh is my best friend. What are you doing here? You have first lunch.""Well, Josh is my boyfriend. I'm sure you two have so much in common, but he should be paying attention to me. You understand, don't you hon?"
"You didn't answer my question." I exhale sharply, returning her glare. I glance over at Josh who gives me an apologetic look and a shrug. Irritated, I grab my stuff and sit up from the booth. Before walking away, I turn toward Josh with a disappointed look on my face. "Don't bother to pick me up. Have fun with your little girlfriend." I turn back around and begin walking away, bumping into Tera before I pass.
I only get halfway through the cafeteria before someone taps me on the shoulder. I spin around quickly and my amber eyes meet with Thalia's almost pure black eyes. My bitchface softens as I realize who it is. A sweet smile is swept across her lips.
"I saw what happened over there. I'm sorry. You like him don't you?" Thalia's hand reaches up to sweep her bangs out of her eyes, but I look at her with a genuine disgusted expression and shake my head.
"I definitely don't like him. Not like that. It's just... he's my only friend," I say with confidence. Thalia was easy to talk to, like I wish Josh was. He seems so lost in his own world, sometimes he forgets to listen.
Thalia looks at me with a dissatisfied expression before taking my hand and leading me out of the cafeteria. I was confused, but I followed along anyway. We weaved through a crowd of teenagers who didn't eat at lunch, but instead made out or tossed around and old, balled up peice of bread.
We stopped just outside the cafeteria and she let go of my hand. With that, I adjusted my backpack on my shoulder and stared at the ground. I was still confused as to why she brought me out here.
"Meet me at Faview Park tonight, right before it gets dark. And you should make up an excuse. We'll be gone for a few days." I looked up at her with a slight sense of fear, but she looked at me with fire in her eyes and mystery in her smile. With that, I knew I was in for something wild, possibly life ruining, but nothing I'd ever forget.
