(Y/N) stared up at the ceiling, her headphones plugged in, but no music coming out. Her roommate, Starla was out like a light, but (Y/N) couldn't sleep. This always happened for the first week of school or so- nights spent trying to fall asleep, but ultimately failing out of pure nerves. This was the third night.
(Y/N) had been listening to (favorite band/artist), trying to fall asleep to it, but eventually gave up, and ended up staring at the ceiling (which was covered in glow in the dark stars and moons), hoping that sleep would overtake her soon.
Welcome back to the second week of college, she thought sarcastically. What a wonderful welcome. No sleep and bags under my eyes. Lovely.
Now, if sarcasm was a class they offered here, (Y/N) would ace it. Alas, it wasn't.
The nineteen-year-old rolled over, facing the window. As much as she hated these nights, she loved the view from this window. It faced the woods. (Y/N) (liked/disliked) the outdoors, but this particular forest gave her an odd sense of security. As if they were watching her (in a non-creepy way).
But then, (Y/N) thought she saw something. She squinted, moving a little closer to the window and sitting up a bit.
A figure.
A flash of blue.
A glint of silver... Like a blade.
(Y/N) watched in frozen horror as it seemed to face her, the silver glint becoming even more sinister through the moonlight.
Did it see her? She couldn't see it very well- it was too dark and too far away.
But then, it was gone, just like that.
What the hell? (Y/N) thought. What was that thing?
She pulled down her curtains with a shiver, suddenly glad that she didn't fall asleep.
