Professor Greg walked to his desk, setting his briefcase down beside it. He surveyed the class, his blue eyes sweeping over everyone's gaze. (Y/N) and Mikey sat there, not saying a word. Professor Greg's eyes seemed to linger on (Y/N)'s for a moment longer. The (hair color) girl looked back.
Their eye contact broke, and Professor Greg opened his briefcase.
"Welcome to Advanced History," Professor Greg said, removing his blazer. He clapped his hands together. "Down to business. As you all may have noticed, there are no textbooks required, nor do the Common Core Standards apply to this classroom. I believe that textbooks are not reliable, and that we'd be much more efficient teaching the class like this." He half smiled, and (Y/N) relaxed. He wasn't creepy, but he was a bit... Off. Like he'd seen things.
"Now, take out your notebooks, binders, loose leaf, or whatever you choose to use for this class."
(Y/N) and Mikey took out their notebooks, (Y/N)'s a basic, black five subject notebook, Mikey's a blue marble notebook. They took out their pens, and there was the sound of shuffling as the other students did the same.
"This is pretty interesting, actually," Mikey commented softly. (Y/N) nodded in agreement.
"I wonder what he'll be teaching us."

Twenty minutes later, (Y/N) was taking notes on famous cults throughout history, along with urban legends from other cultures. While it admittedly was intriguing, she wondered why her new teacher chose to open up with something so... Morbid. And, judging from the looks and mutters of other students, she wasn't the only one. History classes usually consisted of taking notes on things like Christopher Columbus, or ancient civilizations from around the world. Learning about Satan worshipers and rituals usually wasn't on the list. But Y/N was determined to pay attention in this class.

The redheaded girl sitting next to Starla (whose name was Jolene) raised her hand.

"Questions?" The professor said, nodding towards her.

"Yes. Uh, what exactly is the point of this?" Jolene asked. There were a few snickers around the room at her question, and Jolene flushed red. "I'm serious," she said. "Like, we're learning about... cults instead of regular history class stuff, and that's kind of weird, so um..." She trailed off, scratching the back of her neck. Professor Greg smiled wryly at her.

"Well, to answer your wonderful question, Jolene... there are some strange things in this world. Scary things. But, you also need to know that there are certain beliefs that trigger these occurrences, which is where these cults come in." The room was silent, hanging on to his every word. "There are some beliefs which cause people to do terrible things. Things such as sacrifice someone to your god, or trick someone into your circle. I'm teaching you to be wary of these things."

This time, Y/N raised her hand.

"Professor?"

"Yes, Miss Y/N."

"Have you ever personally experienced some of those things you're talking about?"

A definite hush washed over the room at her question. Y/N stared into the Professor's eyes. His smile faded into a faraway look. He chewed his lower lip, deep in thought.

"...I have."

Y/N's heart lurched.

"You have?"

"I have."

"Can you tell us about it?" Mikey chimed in. "...I mean, if you want to..."

Professor Greg set down the piece of chalk he was holding. He took a deep breath, cracking every one of his knuckles. The room was silent.

"Tell me... have you ever heard of Eyeless Jack?"
