Taking out my headphones, I wiped the beads of sweat off of my forehead and doubled over, placing my hands on my knees as I took deep breaths. Jogging for an hour only to sprint for an extra ten is good for me. My dad would be proud.
Catching my breath, I began walking up the path that lead to my house. I smiled as I saw my thirteen year old brother waiting at my door. He rarely ever came to visit me, due to his football practice and my gym sessions.
"Hey there sport, what's up?" I asked as I unlocked my house and walked in with Logan hot on my heels, he shut the door behind him then came to join me in the kitchen.
"Well mum and Andrew are fighting again" He mumbled, but it was loud enough so I could hear it. My mum and her new husband, Andrew had only been married for six months and according to my brother, they'd been arguing non-stop since I'd moved out five months ago. I'd been saving up my money so I could buy a house of my own, not the flat my mother had suggested.
"When will they stop? Well hey, you have a bedroom here, you're more than welcome to stay for however long you wish" I ruffled his hair before he pulled me into a tight hug, sighing, I hugged him back, placing my head on his head. I unwrapped myself from him and walked towards the fridge.
"So sport, when's your next football practice?" I asked as I looked through what food I had for Logan, I needed to feed him because I doubt that mum or Andrew could stop arguing for a moment to feed the child in the house.
"Um, tomorrow, could you take me?" He asked hopefully, his eyes widened with hope as he sat on on of the bar stools. I finally decided I needed to go shopping for food and for now, we'd have to order pizza.
"Sure, and how does pizza sound? From Sue's Pizzeria?" When we were younger, me and Logan would save up our pocket money just to get a pizza from Sue's Pizzeria, my mum used to be good friends with her but lost contact a few years after Logan was born.
"Yes!" He fist pumped the air as he screamed his agreement.
I laughed at the boy as I grabbed the telephone and dialed the number to the pizzeria. Once I'd ordered, me and Logan collected all of the blankets from upstairs and pushed the two sofas out of the way to set out all of blankets and pillows on the floor to make a cozy little nest, like we'd do when we were younger.
Logan ruffled his wavy brown hair as he faced towards me once more. He looked quite serious which was the first.
"Rose, will you talk to mum for me? I haven't told her I'm here and I don't want to speak to her if Andrew's there" He pleaded, I nodded and kissed his forehead before going back into the kitchen to ring my mother.
I dialed the well-known number of my mum and waited for her to pick up.
"Hello?" My mother's voice sounded tired, and worried. Maybe it was because Logan hadn't told her where he was going before storming out.
"Hey mu-" I was interrupted by screaming down the phone, I could easily tell it was Andrew having yet another go at my mum for probably nothing.
"Hey sweetie I'll call you back" Before I had the chance to say anything further, the hung up on me. I stood there with my mouth open wide in shock, my mum had never hung up on my because of him before.
Flicking the bad feeling off, I walked back into the living room.
Once the pizza had come, all we did all night was watch films, eat pizza and have a catch up. It was nice having my little brother here, it got quite lonely in this three bedroom house, the only reason I had it was because my friend worked as a real estate agent and he promised me the house cheap.
By the end of the night, Logan and I were cuddled on the floor in the heaps of blankets, the TV still on.

"Logan, wake up, you have football practice in an hour and we need to get your stuff from mum's" He didn't even flinch. "Logan" I groaned in frustration as he turned onto his stomach and let out a loud snore.
I screamed loudly making his eyes snap open and in a flash, he was standing up with his hands up in surrender. Well he'd be an amazing security guard.
"What if we were actually getting burgled, would you just surrender?" I asked in mock horror, part of it was true because I didn't want to be burgled. He didn't seem like the type to just surrender.
"Well, yea because if we were to be burgled, I would give you up, let's face it you're not ugly" He said shrugging his shoulders. I let out a loud coo of appreciation pulling him into a hug.
"Stop!" He laughed as I kissed his cheek. I laughed at him as he wiped off the lipstick I'd smudged on his skin.
"C'mon kid, we're gonna be late if we don't go now" I announced as I marched out of my house, dragging my little brother with me.
