Death

Chapter 14

Purgatory said he would make me remember, so I guess I was back in time, I was the only one of me in here, since I'm both the beginning and the end. My only hope to survive here was Insanity, but he bailled on me.

I walked in the gray forest of Purgatory, all I could do was walk, and hope for the best. I had jumped and flinched at everything that moved, because of the description Brutality had given me. I heard footsteps behind me, I turned around, to see a girl, about my age. She had ebony hair, and brown eyes, her skin was pale, so she must have been here for a long time. I had no clue if she was good or bad, so I had to be cautious.

"Don't worry, I'm not a fucking ghoul, I won't bite." She said, slowly walking closer to me. "I'm a friend. I'm Freya!" I couldn't trust here, everyone here goes nuts. She will just back stab me, like Insanity did. "Come on, you have no where to turn to. No one to help you. I'm your only chance."

"Well, that's true. But I'm not exactly the most popular guy in this hellhole." I said, she grinned at me.

"Well, neither am I!"

"You don't get who I am. You don't know, do you?" I asked.

"I don't need to know, we need to get you safe." She explained. "What do you go by?"

"Jared."

"Well, Jared, let's find a place to hide you!" She exclaimed as she ledme to the same cave Brutality took me to.

"Not that it's a problem, but, why are you helping me?" I asked.

"Because no one has to suffer like I did." She said as she clutched her fist. She took a deep breath and started to speak. "I first arrived here when I was 14. My father-" She paused to take another breath. "My father was a terrible man. He was abusive. Every night, after my mom had tucked me into bed, I couldn't sleep, because of the memories of him beating up my 7 year old brother. The memories haunted me every moment of every day. One night, he got really drunk, and he killed my mom. I started to call the police, but, before I had the time to speak, he grabbed me. He threw me against a wall, and he beat me to death."

"How old are you?" I asked her, tears were rolling down her face.

"I'm 16, I've been here 2 years." She answered. She had only died 12 hours ago.

"I'm so sorry." I said. "He took you. He took everything from you."

"Who did?" She asked.

"The man who took your soul. The one who runs this place." I had to tell her what was going on. "My real name isn't Jared. That is only what I'm called in public."

"Who are you then?"

"Death." I replied. "About a year ago, I was supposed to reap a kid at my school named Clint, he was supposed to have a heart attack. I thought I could save him if I didn't take his life. But, when I didn't kill him, it killed someone else. My best friend, Jack. Jack is in this place, but he isn't Jack. He is Insanity. When I saved Clint, it created Purgatory, and who ever Purgatory reaps, goes here. I've just met the ones who have gone nuts. I'm supposed to turn into one of them. I'm trying to prevent that from happening, so I can save the world from Purgatory."

"So, Clint started all of this?" She asked.

"I started it, because I tried to save one kid." I said. This girl had only died half a day ago, if I had done my job, she wouldn't have to suffer in this place. I kept telling her all that had happened, and she listened, she didn't question any of it, she understood it even.

"So, Insanity just left you to die?" She asked.

"Yeah, right after he said he could help me too!" I said. "That reminds me, there is something you should know about this place." "The time in Purgatory is different than the time on Earth. For every hour on Earth, it is 2 months in Purgatory. Menaing, you only died 12 hours ago."

"I've only been dead half a day?" She asked. "Meaning, I haven't even had my funeral yet?"

"I'm afraid so. I'm so sorry." I said. She and i talked for a few hours, we eventually started setting up the cave with traps, and other stuff so that we could sleep. I laid down on the cold stone bed, and tried to fall asleep.
