Kaelynn's P.O.V.:
"He-he squeezed my hand." Maura whispered. "He squeezed my hand."
I didn't want to be the bearer of bad news and tell her that they may not mean her is going to wake up soon. But it did mean that he might be able to hear them.
"Um, I'll get Dr. Morrison." I told them, "Oh yeah, here's your baby." I handed Thro back to Denise. She gave me a hopeful smile as I speed walked out of the room.
"Kaelynn, what's going on?" Paul questioned me.
"Niall squeezed his mom's hand. I'm going to get Dr. Morrison. I'll be right back."
"But is that a good thing."
"Could be," I gave him a small smile before walking over to the desk.
"CT!" the male nurse, Jackson grinned up at me. "What brings you here?"
Jackson was a young nurse. I made friends with him on my many visits to the hospital to help out.
"Don't call me that. I'm here to help for a project. Can you page Dr. Morrison for me?"
"Yeah, sure, CT." He smirked before paging the doctor.
"So you must be working on Niall Horan." Jackson grinned.
"Yeah, from One Direction apparently."
"Guess who is on that nursing team?"
"Really?"
"Yeah, now here's Dr. Morrison. Get back to work kid."
"Kaelynn was there a problem?" Dr. Morrison approached me.
"No. Not at all. Basically Maura told Niall to squeeze her hand if he could hear them. And well, he did."
"That's great."
"But they all think he is going to wake up now, and well he probably isn't. I don't want to tell them that though, would you mind..."
"Sure, Kaelynn. Come along now."
We walked back into the large room cramped with people.
"Kaelynn tells me that Niall squeezed your hand, yes?"
"Yes." Maura smiled hopefully.
"Well that's a good sign that he can most likely hear you, but we cannot be sure. Unfortunately, this doesn't hint to a fast revival from the coma. Any movements or even sounds do not mean he is going to wake up. But they are good signs."
Their faces all fell.
"Those IV bags are almost empty. Do you mind changing them Kaelynn? And run other basic test too? Check his vitals, blood pressure, blood test, etcetera. Send them over to Jackson when you're done. "
"No problem."
"Now I must get back to my other patients." He exited the room.
I went over to the work station in the far corner of the room to get the supplies to change the IV bags. There were three that I needed to change.
I moved over to the bed with the tray of supplies.
"Excuse me," I said to Greg who was holding his little brothers hand. I changed the bags quickly before leaning over the sleeping boy. I opened up his eye lid and shined a small light inside. Making notes on a sheet as I went along.
I prepared the blood test. Greg moved his hand away.
"It's ok. It would help if you held it." I smiled at him. He gladly retained his grip in his brother's hand. I finished up just as Jackson poked his head in the door.
