"Nadia! We are going to be late!" Olivia screamed as I heard her heels

clicking down the hall to my room.

"Ok, ok!" I yelled back. It was prom night, the most exciting night of mylife or what was supposed to be. I had been excited for prom, but when I found my boyfriend Travis making out with the bleach blonde cheerleader Bri which I had already hated after all of the years of her torment, I found myself avoiding everything about the masquerade themed prom. My plan would have worked and I would have been watching a movie or baking some cookies right now if it weren't for my best friend Olivia, who practically counted down the seconds untill prom since the date was announced. She was the reason that my hair was pinned up in curls right now and the lacy black dress that I had grown to like.

My bedroom door flew open and Olivia stormed in.

"We are leaving, now." She said with a stern look. I took a look at myself in the mirror one last time and grabbed my mask from my dresser.

"Lets go." I sigghed, following Olivia our of my room. We desended the stairs carefully in our long dresses and tall heels. When we reached the bottom, I spoted a note on the banister. It read...

Hi girls,

I had to run out because of some work things so but I wanted to tell you two to have a great time tonight! Have fun, and remember Nadia that you have to be back by 2! Olivia can stay over if her mother alowes it!

Love Always,

Mom

Typical I thought, putting the note back where I found it.

"What was that?" Olivia sked as we went out the front door.

"Oh, my mom said that you could stay the night if you wanted, you just have to make sure that it's ok with your mom." I replied as I locked the door which was a difficult task with the fake nails Olivia insisted I'd get.

"I'm sure it'll be ok with her." She said as we entered the car.

About 45 minutes later, we pulled up into the gravel drivewway of the mansion that the prom was taking place in. It was the head of student government, Paulina's grandmother mansion that she rarely used because she had about ten others scattered amoungst the country. We parked somewhat far from the mansion and began to walk in.

"Are you excited?!" Olivia said, squeezing my hand.

"Yeah, sure," I replied, rolling my eyes as we walked up the large stairs. We opened the large double doors to find a large ballroom filled with people sitting at tables. Paulina was up on stage at a podium making a speech as usual. Olivia dragged me to the nearest table with seats available.

"In just a moment, we will have the first and only traditional masquerade dance of the night, you will be switching partners untill the end of the song, and whomever you end up with, you will dance with for the rest of the night, to more modern music," she said with an obnoxious smile,"You cannot reveal your identity untill the end of the night. At this time, I am going to ask the ladies to line up side by side on the right and gentelmen on the left."

We got up and stood next to eachother in the line. The music began and I began cancing with my first partner. It went on and on, rotations from one person to the next, until Paulina said into the microphone, "Your next partner will be the last one!"

My final partner wrapped one of his large arms around my waist and the other grabbed my hand. I rested my arm on his shoulder and began dancing. I looked up at the tall boy as we danced, trying to figure out who it was. He had shaggy brown hair and from what I could see, green-ish eyes. He was handsome, that was for sure.
