"Emma!" Rachel Green called for her daughter to wake up. The twelve year old remained asleep in her comfy black and white bed.
"Emma!" She called out again.
"Wake up lazy butt!" She went running into her child's room and began hitting her with a pillow.
"Wake. Up." She didn't move. Rachel sat on the bed beside her and shook Emma back and forth. Nothing worked. She pulled the pre-teen onto her lap and hugged her.
"C'mon wake up. You have school!" Rachel yelled into Emma's ear. She began playing with her cheeks, poking them and playfully slapping them. Emma's head laid on her mother's lap.
"Wake up before I shove you off the bed." She threatened her daughter and laughed.
"You know what? I'm gonna go get some cold water." Emma sat up and screamed.
"I'm up! Please don't spray me with cold water!" Rachel laughed more and tickled her child.
"Stop!" She broke into laughter, joining her mother in the giggling fit.
"Like you said, I need to get ready for school." She tried to get away but couldn't.
"Actually," Rachel trailed off.
"I woke you up a little early, but not very much." Emma squinted at the clock.
"It's one o'clock in the freaking morning!" She gradually got louder.
"And it's Sunday!" Rachel could see that her daughter was getting mad and opened her arms, offering a hug. Emma leaned into her mother's warm embrace.
"Mommy, why are you awake?" She asked, using a child's voice. She didn't answer.
"Did you have a bad dream?" Emma looked up at her mother with matching blue eyes. She slowly nodded her head yes.
"Do you want to stay with me?" Rachel smiled down at her daughter and nodded her head again.
"Thanks babe." Her hug grew tighter. Emma leaned her head against her mother's chest. They both loved moments like this. The tired twelve year old fell asleep quickly but Rachel remained awake. She kissed the top of Emma's head and closed her eyes.Around eight am, Rachel woke up, her daughter still asleep in her arms. She played with the matching blonde hair that belonged to Emma. Her phone rang on the bedside table. She reached over and her daughter seemed to wake up.
"Mommy?" She groggily questioned.
"Go back to sleep." Rachel whispered.
"Hello?" Rachel answered her phone.
"Hey Rach is Emma ready?" She seemed confused.
"Wha?" There was a moment of silence between Rachel and Ross.
"It's my day to spend with her? Is she ready." Rachel realized what was going on and hung up.
"Hey um nevermind. Don't go back to sleep." She patted Emma's back.
"Why? I'm tired!" She whined.
"Your father is here to pick you up." She cuddled closer to her mother.
"Do I have to? Why can't I spend the day with you?" Rachel smiled. Her daughter wanted to stay with her.
"Sorry babe but, he's already here to pick you up." She answered sweetly.
"Fine." Emma pouted and got up, slowly walking to her closet. Rachel's phone rang again.
"What Ross?" Now she wasn't in a very good mood.
"Is she ready?" He seemed to grow quieter, realizing his friend was not happy.
"No. She just woke up." Rachel hung up again, kissed her daughter's cheek as she walked by and went to go get dressed. Emma changed into a black tank-top with a plaid cover up and dark blue jeggings. She then put on her black and white converse and quickly ran a brush through her hair.
"Em you ready?" Rachel knocked on her daughter's door.
"Yeah." She opened it and her mom held a bagel in a plastic bag with a small bottle of sunny d. They walked to the living room side by side.
"Before you go can I ask you something?" Rachel turned to her daughter who only nodded.
"Why don't you wanna go?" Emma looked at her feet. She couldn't decide on what to say so she lied. Now was not the time to tell her mom everything.
"I don't know, you're funner plus you know I'm a mommy's girl." That wasn't a complete lie but, it also wasn't the full truth. Rachel smiled and hugged her daughter tightly. Ross walked in but the mother didn't let go.
"Emma? You ready?" She pulled away and slightly smiled at her mom who gave her a quick kiss.
"Tell Aunt Monica and Aunt Phoebe and Uncle Chandler and Uncle Joey I said hi." She waved goodbye and left.
