I strutted down the hallway, heading towards the stairs for dinner. Leila's door was still closed despite mom calling us down minutes beforehand, so I decided to go out of my way to invite her downstairs.
I knocked on her door at least ten times before she finally replied, "What do you want."
"Nothing, I just find joy in annoying you," I laughed, opening her bedroom door. She immediately grabbed a small throw pillow and chucked it right into my hands.
"Nice try," I chuckled. "But anyways, mom's home and she said that dinners ready."
"Is Amelia joining us, as well?" Leila grinned at me.
"No, but perhaps your little boyfriend will show up." I mocked her tone, throwing the pillow back at her face.
"Maxwell, you are so gonna get it!" She yelped, hoping out of bed. As quick as I could, I sprinted down the steps, trying not to trip over my own two feet. Lelia was only inches behind me as we approached the kitchen. However, I wasn't going to let her get away with throwing a few playful punches my way.
"Get back here!" Lelia yelled at me.
"Catch me if you can!" I laughed.
"Enough!" My mom came walking out of the kitchen with an exhausted look on her face. I stopped short, leading Lelia to run straight into my back. We both whimpered, falling to the ground.
"My head..." I whimpered, plastering my hand against the back of my head. Mom facepalmed at me. "You two are reckless!" She laughed, looking down at us.
"He threw a pillow in my face!" Lelia jumped up. She put her hand in my face, gesturing for me to take the pillow from her.
I took it. "She threw it at me first." As I stood up, she skipped into the dining room.
I followed. My mom came in, placing the food on the dining room table with an exasperated sigh.
"So, how was your last day of school?" My mom smiled at Leila and I, finally taking a seat across from the two of us.
"I suppose it was alright." I replied in the midst of chewing.
"Are you trying to choke?" Leila rolled her eyes.
"No, I'm trying to eat and not have to sit here and look at your face for twenty minutes." I smiled foolishly at her. My dad entered the room out of nowhere, kissing my mother on the cheek. "What's for dinner?"
"Chicken, rice, broccoli... But hurry up, Max might scarf it down before you even get the chance to sit down." My mom laughed, winking at me.
I sent her back a slight laugh to let her know that I found her comments amusing. My dad sat down besides my mom. "Ah. So I hear your last days were just alright?" We nodded. "Did you say goodbye to all of your friends?"
"Yeah," I blushed.
Leila scoffed, "Loverboy over here definitely said goodbye to a couple people." I elbowed her forcefully. "Shut up."
"Ouch, calm down loverboy," She giggled. "I said bye to my friends but I didn't see Logan anywhere. It was really weird. Usually he walks home with us, too, but he wasn't anywhere in sight!" The room went completely silent and my parents gave each other a concerned look.
It took Leila moments to notice. "What?" She laughed. All of the sudden, my appetite was gone.
"I think I'm just going to head up to my room now. Thank you for dinner, mother," I placed my fork down, stood up calmly and walked towards the hallway.
"That's odd, he usually stays for the whole dinner," I heard Leila mutter to my mom.
"He's probably just down about school and moving on to senior year. It's tough, you know this. You're going to be one too."I had just recently learned the news that Logan is moving down to Florida over the summer. He came up to me out of no where in the halls, begging me not to tell Leila until he could get the chance to do it himself. I couldn't help but ponder over the thought of how heartbroken Leila would end up. Logan is my best friend and all, but him and Leila have a bond that is relatively unbreakable.
Just the mention of it stresses me out more than anything. I have so much pressure riding on my shoulders to keep this huge secret from my own sister.
The girl I trust with my life.I don't know if I'd be able to handle watching him break the news to her.
