Bucky caught her staring at his arm for the last time. She looked away, embarrassed, just like all the other times. Sure, she was always nice to him but the staring just got to him and made him feel abnormal. He had spoken to Steve about it; about how it made him feel so insecure. Steve had tried to comfort him and tried to make up excuses. Bucky'd had enough though and today he just left the room without saying anything. Steve frowned and decided to confront the young telekinetic team member.
"Hey Katie, what do you think about Bucky?" he asked straight out. Katie widened her eyes slightly at the directness of Steve's question.
"Bucky? He's great! I really like him," she replied with a huge smile.
"Well, it doesn't look that way. He thinks you're repulsed by him or something because of his metal arm."
"He does? Why would he think that?" she asked as her face fell.
"He's very sensitive about it...and I don't blame him. It doesn't help that you keep staring at it. Why do you do it anyway?"
"Oh, he's got it completely wrong!" she exclaimed before she ran off to find Bucky.
Katie eventually found him all alone in the training room, punching the bag really hard; it was swinging around almost wildly. She thought the bag was going to come off its hinges or burst, just like it did when Steve was really into his training sessions. She approached him carefully.
"Hey Bucky," she said meekly.
Bucky looked up and gave her a small, tight-ish smile. Great, she's here to stare at my arm again. But she didn't. She was looking straight into his eyes with a sorrowful look. What, she felt sorry for him too now? That was just great.
"Bucky..." she started. He waited for her to continue without saying anything.
"I... I heard that you're bothered by something that I keep doing..." He frowned...Steve had blabbed. He inwardly groaned.
"I'm really sorry if I've made you uncomfortable in any way, but I can't help it..."
"It's fine... I've come to terms with it by now..." he said cutting her off. He didn't really want her pity.
"No, Bucky, you don't understand!" she almost yelled as she grabbed his left arm. He was a little taken aback. He watched her move her eyes from his face to his arm and frowned when she bit her bottom lip. She looked back at him with a sheepish grin.
"I can't stop staring at it because I find it... well, seriously sexy," she admitted. Bucky was stunned. He blinked a few times. He couldn't form any words.
"It's kind of a guilty pleasure of mine whenever I stare at it...I never meant to offend or hurt you in any way...but it really makes you look so hot. I mean, you're already hot on your own but this is an added bonus... you know?" She was babbling now and Bucky didn't know whether to laugh or storm off in anger.
He decided on the first. Maybe he did have a chance with her then.
"You don't mind?" she asked in a hopeful tone.
"Now that I know why you've been doing it, no, I don't. But what does it mean?"
"God Bucky, I'm practically falling at your feet here..." Bucky looked at her contemplating something. Before he knew it he'd made a decision that would either get him slapped or end up in something better.
He grabbed her by the waist and kissed her. He did not get slapped - good sign. Better sign - she returned his kiss with the same amount of passion.
When they pulled away, he rested his forehead against hers and smiled at her softly.
"I've wanted you to do that for ages," she whispered before she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him back in.
