We drive until Derek pulls into the parking lot of the town carnival. I've never been since my parents are never home and I don't have any friends. He gets out of the car and quickly walks around the front to my side. Derek opens the door for me and I smile,
"I've never had a guy open a door for me," He grins and walks with me to the ticket booth.
"Two armbands please." He requests, pulling out his wallet.
"I can pay for mine," I offer but he shakes his head. He hands the lady a twenty dollar bill and she gives him the bands. Derek passes me one and I try to put it on but fail. He laughs, reaching over to help me. He tells her to keep the change and we enter the carnival. He pulls me over to one of the ring toss booths, grabbing one of the five rings. I watch as he tosses the ring but misses.
"You don't have to focus, here let me show you." I grab one of the others and toss it without a thought. I manage to ring one of the bottles in the middle.
"Wow, I got showed up by my date," Derek laughs and we move on to another booth. He thinks this is a date? I thought we were just hanging out as friends. We rotate through the booths and the sun starts going down after a few hours.
"Let's go on the Ferris wheel!" I exclaim, tugging him over to the giant wheel. We wait in line for our turn, watching the others on the ride. The line moves pretty quick and it's finally our turn. Derek let's me get in first and then he climbs in after me. The cart starts to move, moving us close to the top.
"The view is amazing!" I say, looking at the sky that's full of colors. I look over at Derek and see that he moved closer.
"Yeah, it is." He responds, leaning in. His lips roughly capture mine and I'm sure he left a bruise. I bite his lip hard, making him jerk back. He puts his hand on my leg, close to my 'area'. I try to move his hand but he only puts more force into it.
"Stop," I plead, trying to move away. Derek pins me against the side of the cart, disabling me from moving.
"I know you like it, Lena, so why fight me?" His voice sends a shiver through me. I finally free myself and push him as hard as I can. Fortunately, I put enough force behind it to push him off. The cart reaches the bottom and I dart around him to get out. I weave my way through the crowd and run towards the exit. I can hear him yelling as he runs after me. I take a sharp turn left into the woods and lean against a tree.
"I will get what I want from you, Lena! One day I will!" He echoes from the road. I begin walking, trying to find some sense of direction. I can feel the tears slide down my cheeks but I ignore them. I follow my instinct and eventually end up at my clearing. I look for the trail that would lead me home and follow it. I'm relieved when I see the familiar outline of my house. I go inside and make sure that all the doors are locked. I climb the stairs to my bedroom and go into my attached bathroom. I turn the handle for hot water and adjust it to my liking. I lock the door, not taking any chances. After taking my dirt stained clothes off, I step under the steady stream of warm water. I just stand there, letting the water run down my body. It's only now that I let the tears flow.
I start scrubbing my skin until it's red. I can still feel where his hand touched me and how his lips attacked mine. Sobs rack my body and I fall to the floor of my shower. I pull my knees to my chest and more tears fall. I faintly hear the sound of the door unlocking and opening downstairs. I don't even care if my parents can hear me. Footsteps ring out as they walk up the stairs and stop outside my door. I cant hear them come in but next thing I know my mom is pulling back the curtain. She sees me and quickly grabs a towel. She turns off the water, wrapping me up in the towel.
"Oh Lena, what happened?" I don't respond and she helps lift me out of the shower. I clutch onto her arm, hugging her. I'm grateful that I was able to push him off me who knows what would have happened if I didn't. She stands, bringing me with her. I sit on the toilet while she walks out of the bathroom.
She comes back a few minutes later carrying a pair of light grey sweatpants and a t-shirt. I change into them as she stands outside the door. I open the door, walking past her to my bed. My mom cares for me more than my dad does. He used to when I was little but then he started working more. I lay on top of my covers and my mom comes to lie with me. She wraps her arms around me and I put my head under hers, enjoying the comfort.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She offers. I shake my head and close my eyes. I listen to her soft breathing and relax, letting my thoughts take over. I know only one thing, my trust has been broken and I don't think I can trust anyone. Ever.
