Lea's POV
I was born the youngest of two twin girls, Lilly and Lea. However, I don't have a sister and I haven't since the age of 12. My brother came out as transgender when we were 12 years old. He took a long time to say it as Mom, Mark, Tom and I sat round the table.
"Lilly? What's wrong?" Mom asked. His hand clenched slightly at the use of that name. He had told me previously that he wasn't happy as a girl but hadn't exactly come out. For a year I had used they pronouns and called him Li. It made it easier for him to cope with it during the year before he came out.
"I'm... t-transgender. I want to be a boy." He saw our Mom's face, our Mom's shocked face, and ran out the room. I ran after him as did Mom.
"Sweetie, I'm sorry I looked so taken aback, I just wasn't expecting it." He turned around to face Mom, a tear threatened but he held it in.
"I love you no matter what gender you are or who you love. Remember that." Mom opened her arms for a hug and embraced him. My brother cried, not out of sadness he told me, but of relief. We sat in the living room and asked him some questions.
"Have you known for long?"
"For as long as I can remember."
"Do you want to get some different clothes?"
"Yes please."
"Would you like school to know?"
"Yes."
"Is that why you wanted the binder thing?"
"Yes."
"Do you want to cut your hair?"
"As soon as possible."
"What do we call you now?"
"I'm not sure."
Together, my brother and I came up with a name. The full thing. Liam Harrow Fischbach.
We all got our phones out and changed Li or Lilly to Liam. After that, the night carried on as planned. We watched the lion king, ate popcorn and cried. The only two different things were Mom booked Liam a hair cut and the entire night, we didn't say the name Lilly once.
