Jess's POV
~
Taylor barged in the door, panicking.
"Sissy, what's wrong?" a six year old me asked, drawing a bunny.
"Nothing," she said, running downstairs.
I went back to drawing my bunny, oblivious to what was about to happen. After hanging my picture up on the fridge, I heard yelling coming from downstairs.
"Mom! Please! They're coming for me!" Taylor screamed.
"Let them take you then. You need help, Taylor." Dad said.
"Well you need to-" Taylor started, but she was cut off by a loud knock at the front door.
"THIS IS THE POLICE! LET US IN!" a deep voice yelled from behind the door.
I ran to the door, and unlocked it.
"Hello, little girl. Are you Jess?" a tall man with a beard asked.
I nodded slowly.
"Can you tell me where your sister is?" he asked.
I pointed downstairs.
"Thank you, Jess." he rushed down the steps, taking them two at a time. "Freeze!" he yelled.
I heard panicked whispers, and then silence.
"I said, FREEZE!" he said again, much louder this time.
Dad said something quietly, and a gun went off.
~
I woke up, shaking. I was really hot and sweaty. It took me a moment to realize I was screaming.
"Jess, are you okay?" my mother rushed into my room. She noticed my heavy breathing and said, "Another dream?"
"Yeah." was all I said.
She simply nodded.
We went downstairs, and started making pancakes.
"I'm not hungry," I said, and ran back upstairs. I played my favorite station on Pandora, and got ready.
I put on black skinny jeans, and a dark purple hoodie. I put on some eyeliner and mascara, slipped into my Converse shoes, and ran back downstairs.
My mom handed me my black over-the-shoulder bag, and I walked out the door. I haven't gotten my licence yet, due to my random panic attacks and my horrible anxiety. Since I don't have a license, I have to walk to school, but I don't mind. It gives me a chance to be alone with my thoughts.
~
The policemen dragged a screaming Taylor out the door, as well as a body bag.
"What's in there?" I asked mom, pointing to the bag.
My mother was silent.
"Mom?" I said, lightly tugging on her floral dress.
A single tear escaped her eyes as she said, "That, Jess, is your father."
