Dark circles under eyes are often considered a symptom of ageing. Noticed in men and women due to a number of reasons, dark circles can also affect teenagers. Not only do they lose their confidence levels but also tend to shy away from their social life. Dark circles under eyes appear in form of blemishes and take away your charm and appeal. So, what causes dark circles under eyes in teenagers?

Causes:

Stress

Stress of any kind- mental, emotional or physical takes away a child’s natural glow from the skin and leaves him exhausted too. Since, our state of mind reflects on our skin, dark circles appear under the eyes as the result.

Eating Habits

According to the general trends, teenagers are the most vulnerable audiences for junk food selling companies. Their age is as such that they end up gorging on all the foods that do not have any nutrients that skin requires to maintain its natural glow. Lack of a balanced diet in teenagers is one of the greatest causes of the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

Sleep Deprivation

Lack of sleep also affects the formation of dark circles under the eye. Sleep deprivation makes the face paler that makes eye circles look darker. According to a study, older children and teens tend to be more at risk for chronic sleep deprivation, which gives an appearance of dark circles around the eyes.

Sun Exposure

Exposure to sun leads to melanin production and can result in tanning of the skin. The melanin pigment makes the skin look darker and especially under the eye as the skin is thinner around that area.

What causes dark circles under eyes in teenagers often is also noticed in adults. All the factors discussed above can also affect an adult to a greater extent. The nature of dark circles is as such that they attack an individual’s natural beauty and leave an individual with much stress and even depression.
