Alexander was a young and noble man who loved his childhood sweetheart wife Elizabeth with all his heart and was thrilled when she not only said yes to marrying him and was even happier when she told him that they were going to be having one more join their family, but tragedy struck when they were on there way home from the hospital from a routine check up and where hit hard in the passenger side by a truck that couldn't stop on the ice covered roads. Just like that Alex lost the love of his life and the child they were going to bring into the world together. Full of anger and hatred toward the God he once worshiped for ripping his world from him Alex stumbled into a deep dark depression, but there wasn't enough drugs, porn, and alcohol to fill the void in his heart.
One day he was approached at the bar, still trying to drown his sorrow, by a tall, lengthy man who looked like he already had one foot in the grave and smelled of must, decay, and brimstone. The man poled up a seat next to Alex waved for two more shots as he went to pull something out of his cough. The bartender brought over two more shots as the man slid a sealed envelope to Alex. As Alex looked down at the shot and the envelope now in front of him the man started to talk. "Now Alex I know what you have gone through." He said at first with a bit of a hiss that smoothed into a silky smooth voice. " I want to help you out by giving you an opportunity of a lifetime." "All you need to know is in that envelope there." He said as he outstretched a bony finger toward the envelope. "All you have to do is open it and sign on the line." He hisses through a now forming toothy grin. Alex picked up the drink, tipped it back drunkenly, put the glass down and picked up the envelope and looked it over to see that the seal was in the shape of the Leo zodiac sign. " I don't *hick up* trust who you are you and I *hick up* don't sir if I can now know." Alex drunkenly mumbled. " Let me *hick up* over it, think." " Of course. I understand Alex. This is an important decision to make. Take it home and read it over. You will know how to get a hold of me when you are ready."
Alex drunkenly grabs for the envelope and after a couple of tries he was able to grab it and then struggled a couple of times to put it in his pocket as he wobbly tried to stand up and as if on a boat in ruff seas walk to the door and get a cab back to his apartment. As the driver polled up Alex, now a little more sober than when he got in about fifteen miles ago, gave the cab driver the money for the ride and still wobbling a little walked up the three flights of stairs to his apartment. After he walked in through the door he threw his keys toward a bowl with other keys and bags, some with a powdery white substance and the others with a green one. As he continued in and shut the door behind him he slipped his shoes off and headed for his fridge to grab another beer. As he spanked to his couch with the beer in hand he opened it and took a swig to help wash the pain and voices of the past away. As he flopped down on his couch he turned on his TV and continued to drink his beer. As Alex fell asleep the now empty bottle fell to the floor and rolled into similarly empty bottles that laid around his couch.
The next morning as Alex woke up to a next level hangover he couldn't help, but to think about the man and that weird envelope that he had been handed. What was even stranger is that that was all Alex could remember from that night. But before he could try to recall more from that night he was interrupted by the sudden need to throw up. As he rushed to his bathroom he caught a glimpse of what looked to be the same envelope that he vividly remembered putting in his pocket sitting on his entry room table next to the bowl he threw his keys into when he got home from the bar. After his night repeated in all of two minutes of vodka, whisky, and beer Alex was able to get his stomach to settle. As he flushed his night away he sat back and rubbed his forehead. He slowly got to his feet and walked out toward the door and as he looked out to the entry way he noticed that the envelope was gone. Still in a bit of a hangover daze Alex walked back to his cough and slumped back down on it. As he settled into place he grabbed his jacket from the floor and reached into the pocket he put the envelope into. As he rummaged through the pocket he quickly realized that the envelope was gone. As he now confusedly opened the pocket so as to actually see inside and make sure what he was feeling for really wasn't there, there was a knock at his door.
"Alex? Come on man. I know you are in there. Come answer the door please. We need to talk." said a voice from the other side of the door. "Go away. I'm fine Frank." called back Alex. "You have been gone for three months. We need you back at the precinct. I know you are still hurting man, but this isn't what she would have wanted. Please man, come back to work." Franklin replied back worldly. "Maybe tomorrow. I can't today even if I wanted to. That whole sobriety thing kills the party I had last night." remarked Alex. "Okay man, but please take care of yourself. I love you like a brother and I don't like seeing you hurt like this. I have to go now." soberly replied Franklin. As Franklin left the hallway Alex went back to searching for the missing envelope and after tearing his place apart for about an hour he wasn't able to find the envelope and was starting to wonder if it had all been in his head. Pushing the thought out of his head he started to pick up the mess that he just made and the months worth of heartbreak and misery when he noticed something in between the cough cushions. 'Could it be the envelope? Did it fall and get stuck there last night?' Alex thought to himself as he went to grab it to look over the envelope once again.
As he looked it over he reached over for a knife to open the envelope with. As Alex opened the envelope he pondered what could be inside. When the envelope was finally opened he peeked inside to see a letter and a clay coin. Then tipped it to empty out the contents into his other hand. As he caught both of the items he took and set the envelope down on the coffee table in front of him. Then took the clay coin in his right and the note in his left then looked the coin over. On one side the coin was blank and the other had the constellation of Leo engraved into it. After he finished looking over the coin he set it down on the envelope then turned his attention to the note. The paper was this tan colored old looking paper that was folded into thirds and had a musty and sulfur smell to it. As he opened the letter he noticed that the paper was pitch black on the inside with a ruby red trim and lettering. The note read as such,
"Dear Alexander,
This letter is written to help you gain the power to take what you lost so long ago and the power to kill all who get in your way no matter who they are. All you have to do to gain the power of the lion stars is to take the clay coin in both hands and as you break it remember the pain and heartbreak you went through. Then imagine the life you wanted and call out my name as you pledge your soul to me. After you have completed this I shall come for you.
Sincerely,
Lucifer the Snake charmer."
As Alex finished reading he couldn't help, but think how all of this sounded like a load of bullshit, but after everything he has seen recently he isn't one hundred percent sure either. As he set the note down and went for the coin again there was a sudden burst of light in the room and from it a winged tiger appeared in front of him along with a winged mouse on its head. Then a voice cried out to him, one that sounded so familiar, one that made his heart skip. "Elizabeth" he cried out looking into the gentle eyes of the tiger fighting back the tears welling up in his eyes. "Yes my love it's me. Oh how I have missed you, but I was always with you. Please don't be mad with God he had no choice." sweetly and calmly spoke Elizabeth as her form changed from a winged tiger to her human form. As her form changed so did that of the winged mouse into a baby, their baby. "How is this possible? You two died in the crash before you were even able to give birth to our child." Cried out Alex to Elizabeth. She simply shook her head no. "We don't have the time, my love. Please just listen and don't go through with this Alex. please for us." She sweetly smiled as she and the baby started to fade away again. "Elizabeth, please don't go. I still need you." he cried out to her through tear filled eyes. And just like that Alex was alone again. His wife and child out of his reach again. 'Why? Why them? Why us?' "WHY MY FAMILY?" He went from thinking in his head then yelling at the top of his lounges.
With what just transpired Alex now more angry than ever before he swiped up the coin and broke the coin into and while he did that he could only imagine his lost wife and child. Then with a loud scream he screamed out " Lucifer give me my family back and my soul is yours." Then a loud laugh came out of the shadows. "Of course my boy. I will help you get your revenge and take back the family you lost, but first take the power of the lion in and have dominion over peoples wrath." called out Lucifer as he appeared out of the shadows. "Of course my lord." Alex exclaimed, bowing toward Lucifer. Then all of a sudden the clay coin was absorbed into Alex's hands and then covered him in jet black armor with a lion style design to it. Then Alex followed Lucifer into the shadows and down to hell to serve his new master.
