A Monster came
seven minutes
after midnight
but it wasn't the one
the boy was expecting.
It wasn't the monster
of his nightmare,
the one he had every night. The monster was,
the old yew tree.
He was the spine of mountains
and the tears of the rivers.
He was everything that
was untamed and untamable.
He was this wild earth
come to heal the boy.The monster promised
the boy three stories
and in turn asked
for the fourth tale.
He asked the boy
for the truth,
The truth of his nightmare.
