Clunk. I jumped out of bed looking around, what was that noise? I thought to myself. I put on my robe, swung open the door and ran out of my room. I placed my hand on the smooth wooden railing that had been nailed to the wall when grandad still lived at the house. When I got to the bottom of the stairway, I saw a thin slip of light glistening on the shiny floorboards. It was dark in the room where I was so I couldn't see much. I could feel the cold wood under my feet as I stepped off the final step, I walked around the corner of the stairs. At this point in time I felt like the house was quiet... too quiet. I had two choices, the first was to go into the room that the light was coming from or two, turn on the light and call out to see if someone was there. I had to think fast so I decided to go with the first option, but I had to be sneaky and maintain the element of surprise.
I walked down the long hallway I front of me as quietly as I could, I could hear what sounded like a pen on paper, whoever is in there must be writing something I thought to myself. Beside the door was a small coffee table with photos of grandad and the grandchildren, candles and flashlight. I picked up the flashlight and hold it firmly in my hand in case whoever was in there tried to attack me, I carefully reached for the doorknob and turned it, I could hear the rusty brass screech and the hinges rattle loudly as the door opened. I could hear the person on the other side of the door start rushing so I bust in swinging my torch but to my dismay the person had already left through the front door, but I did see the paper on the table it read, Dear Emily, I need to be fast but if you are reading this then you need to know that this house has many secrets some that need to be uncovered and some that are hidden in plain sight, please just know that you are not alone, and just remember... The well, everything will be explained soon enough but until that time comes you must promise me that you will stay safe, trust no one... Love X.
I stood on the Middle of the empty kitchen looking around, I could feel a breeze coming from behind me, I turned to see the front door open, as I walked over to close the door I could feel my mind spinning with unanswered questions, who is X, what did "X" mean by " this house has many secrets" and how did X know my name? But I there was only one thing that kept coming back to me, the one sentence that made everything about the house feel off...Trust No one.
