Things are always dull in the world of the Shinigami, a bleak and dark wasteland that is slowly rotting. Everyone was bored, trying to find and do little things that filled the void of boredom.
Ryuk was one of these Shinigami, he was so bored, he was so bored that he dropped his death note into the mortal realm, so when it is picked up, he is allowed to go the human world and stay there for as long as he likes. Many Shinigami mocked him for doing so, thinking that he was just wasting his time.
But there was one Shinigami that thought otherwise, that Shinigami was Rem, she just stood there in the distant watching Ryuk take his descent to the mortal world. Without herself even knowing that one of her skeletal like hands had moved to her holster that held two Death Notes.
Sprouting her wings, she flew herself back to where her friend died and turned to ashes. Upon arrival she peeked into the observation hole to see a human picking up a Death Note of her comrade. So grabbing one of her Death Notes, she dropped it in, letting it sink in and fall slowly into the human world.
Finally she gets to leave this dull place... temporarily atleast.

A girl just stayed staring off in class, thankfully her teacher didn't catch her off guard, otherwise she would've gotten a detention and extra work. It's one of the perks of staying at the middle of the class. So waking herself up from her daydream, she turned her face to look outside as something caught her eye.
A single falling notebook, landing by the bottom of the tree, she also saw someone else looking at the same direction as she was, Light Yagami.
The two hated eachother with a passion, as the two were always in a battle to see whose the best, often knocking eachother from the top to second place.
Looking away instantly she tried to pay attention to class bit her thoughts began to wonder back to the falling notebook. Before she knew it class was over and the day had ended.
So packing everything at her own pace, she left to try to investigate the notebook, bit by the time she got there Light had already picked it up observing in carefully. From her field of view, she could see that it was just black with the words 'Death Note' written on it.
Looking towards Light's face she could see that he thought of it as a joke, so he put it back down and left. Being the curious person she was, she hurried her way to the notebook, opened it and began to ready it.
It seemed like a set of rule as to how to use the 'Death Note', as if it had a special way to commit ones murder within precision times. She could see how Light would find this to be a joke, he wasn't open minded like she was, and that was what made her smarter than he was.Flipping through the pages , the next few were blank, free for her to write a name. She was about to flip through the book even more, though was stopped when she heard someone clear their throat behind her. Slightly startled by this, she turned around to find a glaring Light with his hand out as if to say give me the notebook.
With an eye roll and a harsh glare to match his, she reluctantly gave it to him and walked her way home. She had just walked out of the school gates only to find a mess of the street.
Students were already smoking, some even showing off the drinks they had been able to sneak in to the school, others even sharing drugs. Ofcourse if this was the main entrance, it would be clean and none of these things would be seen. But this was one of the side entrances, a quicker and easier path to get home, as this permits the student to just cross a road and walk down a path to get home.
As much as she was encouraged to take the main entrance by her aunt, sometimes she went against it and took the shorter way. So keeping her head down she walked, crossed the road, and kept on walking down her long path.
It seemed long, but then again it was a 20 minute walk, though it was going to be a little longer as her steps were smaller than they usually were. For some reason, she had a feeling of dread, like something bad was going to happen.
Shaking her head, snapping out of her little daze, she picked up the pace, keeping her head up and stared at her heavily built surroundings. She loved this neighbourhood, it was always so lively, the houses were nicely spaced, trees on the pavement.
Just about to turn around a corner, something caught her attention, something falling caught her attention. Turning her face in the falling items direction, which had already landed onto the ground, she looked shocked and excited.
The item was actually another notebook, and it looked exactly the same as the one Light had, so opening it up to see the first page. And was able to read the words that were word for word as the previous notebook.
So bending down and placing her bag on the ground, she quickly stuffed the note into the bag. After doing do she stood up, picked up her bag and continued on her way.
When she finally arrived, and opened the front door. She was welcome with a warm airy environment, met with the noise of pots and pans clanging ro eachother and slight giggles.
Rolling her eyes with a slight smile, she walked into the kitchen and greeted her two aunts, while sitting down onto the dining table.
"Hey aunt June, aunt May!"
"Hey sweetie/lovely," both said in sync as they flashed bright smiles in her direction, while she began to take out her papers for her homework that she needed to do before the next day.
"We need to talk my dear," aunt May said as she had a taunting and teasing tone in her voice, while June just placed everything she had in her hands down and sat down across the girl, also with across taunting grin plastered on her face.
The colour in the girls face just began to drain from colour, as she watched her biological aunt leave to go to the living room for some reason, across ready beginning to panic she asked, "Am I in trouble or something?"
June just replied close to snorting up a storm of laughter, "Must be or something, because your not in trouble!"
And with a sigh of relief, May entered holding a brown envelope and a happy grin, that was still plastered on her face, "This came in today for you in the mail, I think you'll be pleased with what's in it!" she stated while handing the envelope to her niece.
"So I take it you already opened it..." said the girl as she opened the non-sticky cover and pulled out the contents, reading over the papers. She began to look shocked yet happy. Nearing the verge of tears she stood up and dashed to the other side of the table and hugged both of her aunts, squealing, jumping for joy, anything and everything a person does when they are purely overjoyed. She finally got a scholarship!
Usually a scholarship is given to only one student per year within this school, and this year it was her! She finally beat Light to the prize and she was the winner of this neck-to-neck race!
So after they celebrated with ice - cream and CW series, until suddenly the news came onto the channel and began to report about a mass outbreak in heart attacks all over Japan. This petrified the girl and the couple, as May dashed quickly for the phone to go make a call.
Thankfully nothing major happened to them, especially to the people on the other end of the phone. So getting ready for bed, the young girl just stayed on her bed reading the Notebooks supposed instruction of how to kill, on her bed as the sound of rain pouring filled the room.
Everything was peaceful, until the second after lightning had struck and startled her. She began to feel an eerie presence within her room, just as she finished reading the instructions.
Lightning had once again struck the earth, as this time a shadow loomed over her. So struck with fear, she turned to face face the owner of the shadow, though calmed down as she saw a non - intimidating figure. They might have had a skeletal body structure, a bandage over their eye, and purple hair, with a slightly disfigured nose. But the girl had imagined worse, than the figure infront of her. After some time of staring at the figure the girl spoke first, "Are you a Shinigami?"
A small ghostly and amused smile danced upon the figures face, as the hey extended a skeletal arm and said, "Indeed I am... (Y/N) (L/N)..."
