THE MERCILESS SOUL POEM.
As I walk down an open road
That runs beside a river's brim
I met a tramp in shabby clothes
I pitted not his shabby clothes
His thorny shoes and broken hat but his
dull angry face I pitted that
For him, the Skylark was not heard
For him, the rivers did not run
I do not think he even feels the morning sun.
A hopeless man is sad to see but sadder
For a man so dear that from all kindness, love his soul
is barred
Shut in from sin and self his soul is prisoned
in a dungeon deep and there
Shut out from man and self thy sin asleep.
