T: Emily wake up, we have to leave.
E: Why? We have shelter here. Where would we even go? It's midnight, Toby.
T: I need to show you something our family kept secret. It's hidden in a shed in the woods out back.
E: Why do you-
T: Just come. We don't have much time.
✒
I obliged and took his hand that was extended in front of me. I was still in my night gown, and it was pitch black outside.
✒
E: Can I at least go grab a coat? It must be freezing out there.
T: You'll be fine, I promise.
✒
He tugged on me harder than I expected, causing me to fly off my bed. The momentum and strength was inhuman.
✒
E: Whoa, Toby! Are you trying to kill me or something?
T: We don't have time anymore, Emily! We don't have time!
✒
His face scrunched up; pieces of hair began to fall in chunks. His veins turned purple and flesh turned pale.
✒
E: A-alright! Stop that!
T: Too.. late?
✒
He cocked his head to one side, and his pupils parted from each other. I couldn't struggle out of his still hands that were acting as cuffs.
✒
E: Urgh!
✒
Then, he suddenly turned. Only his body jerked to the front. His arms stayed exactly where they were, causing his shoulder to make a loud click. Then he ran. Everything around me was a blur, and he ran so fast I could barely keep my eyes open.
In an instant, I felt the cold air of the outdoors, but I couldn't make out any solid objects. My teeth chattered as I felt bushed and twigs stab at my arms and feet. The rapidly moving torso of Toby was being gashed as well, splattered red goop onto me. Copper was all I could smell.
At one point, I got so dizzy and cold, I blacked out.
