"I'm so proud of you. You're going to be alright, sweetie?" My mum asked me endearingly as she stood at the entrance of my dorm room.
"Yes mum. I'll miss you." I smiled sadly at her as I said my goodbyes.
I sighed tiredly as I laid down on my new bed. This still felt so surreal to me. Accepting scholarship to one of the most prestigious academies in the world, moving out of home and into my new dorm room, everything happened so quickly I didn't even have time to process it. Now after settling into my new 'home' for the next year, everything came back to me like a tidal wave.
This is it. I'm starting a new chapter in my life!
Oxvale Academy. The renown academy that only accepts students of certain calibre. Oxvale doesn't accept any other students either. There are no specific 'requirements' to enter this school. You either have to be in the Oxvale Education since when you were like three, or rumours say that parents have to pay their way into the Academy.
Kind of discriminating but that's how the school works. I still find it absurd that Oxvale offered me scholarship but I still thank my lucky stars for this crazy opportunity that's been given to me.
Looking around my dorm room, excitement bubbled within me. This was much better than I've expected. A long white, marble study table with complimenting shelves stood next to a long window.
The view is absolutely breathtaking. A large grass field, accompanied with the view of distant sea. My bed is pushed towards a turquoise wall with multiple shelves. With the help of my mum, we managed to decorate the room to give it more life. Pictures filled the shelves above my bed. Stacked books needed throughout the year occupied the bookshelves. A white mat sat in the middle of the room.
Thank my luck, I was given my own dorm room with my own toilet!
My stomach grumbled after a hectic morning of furniture moving. Grabbing some loose cash I had with me, I decided to make my way towards the cafeteria. School doesn't start till Monday, two days from now. I still didn't know what to expect yet.
Being a transferee, everyone will be a new face to me. Will they be some stuck-up rich kids, or friendly humans?
As I made my way down the stairs, I marvelled at the architectural beauty around me. Marble floors adorned the entire school, with grandeur columns on either sides of the hallway. Silver coloured lockers lined the first four levels in the main structure of the Academy where all the classrooms were situated. Wow, my conscience screamed excitedly. Well, safe to say that those rumours seemed true. The whole school screams rich!
The cafeteria didn't disappoint either. It had the side of three-quarters the size of a football field. At the entrance of the cafeteria was a buffet-style arrangement, with an insane variety of foods, ranging from breakfast courses to desserts. The rest of the cafeteria were just filled with round tables.
The cafeteria was pretty noisy. Even though school has not officially started, students have already started to move into the dorms and met up with their friends. Licking my lips in anticipation, I went on ahead to fill my plate before settling down on an empty round table.
"Hey there!" I chirpy voice suddenly exclaimed opposite me, making me jump in fright.
A girl with a wide grin sat next to me. "Sorry for scaring you, I'm Ariel." She giggled as she introduced herself.
Clearing my throat, I smiled nervously at her. "Hello, I'm Maya."
She was in a simple black dress, with a cute white bow-like collar. Her bangs made her baby face look more childlike.
"Are you new here? I've never seen you around." She looked at me curiously. Nodding my head, I answered her," Yeah. I just transferred in."
She smiled excitedly at me. "Cool! We haven't had a transferee in such a long time! We can be best buddies from now on! And- "
"Calm down, Ariel. You're scaring her with your excitement." A boy suddenly slid into the sit opposite me and next to Ariel. He had a beanie on, covering most of his sandy blonde hair. Another thing about him was his eyes. Blue orbs that seem to sparkle like blue crystals.
Ariel giggled again before sticking her tongue out at him. "Go away Max! I'm spending time with my new friend!"
Max rolled his eyes at Ariel before turning his attention back to me. "Hi, I'm Max. I'm this baboon's boyfriend." Max casually puts his arm around Ariel's shoulders and kissed her hair.
Aww. I cooed.
"Hey! I'm not a baboon!" Ariel exclaimed before pouting.
I laughed, feeling more at ease with them.
"So, Maya, want us to give you a tour of the Academy before school term starts?" Ariel asked me excitedly.
After having Ariel and Max give me a tour around the Academy, I learned more about them as well. Ariel's father is the CEO of a really big bank while Max's parents are fashion designers.
Seeing that I didn't come from a very well-to-do family, this came to me as a really big news, even though they claim they aren't the richest in the school. Still pretty rich, if you ask me. Another thing I learnt about them was that we shared most of our classes together, which I am extremely grateful for, and that Ariel's dorm is on the same level as mine, which means that we can even get to classes together.
However, with the boons come the banes. They also did warn me that most of the school population are reincarnated monsters. Basically, there are some people whom I don't want to make enemies with.
Sigh, I just hope to have a really peaceful senior year in Oxvale Academy.
