Knock. Knock. Knock.
"Maya! Are you up yet! First lesson's starting in 15 minutes!" Someone shouted outside my door and the knocking continued. Groaning, I pulled the covers over my head.
Hmm... 15 minutes to first lesson. Wait, 15 minutes to first lesson?!
I shot out of bed and ran to open my door.
Ariel stood outside my door and stared at me, before laughing. "Your hair!"
Shoot! I dashed back into my room and tried to get ready as quickly as possible while Ariel just strolled calmly into my room.
"Nice room!" She said excitedly as she sat on my bed. How can she be so lively in the morning?
"Thanks!" Not sure if she understood what I just said with a toothbrush in my mouth.
In a record time, I managed to slip into my uniform, which is just black leggings with a black skirt with a white blouse under a black blazer and a tie. I hurriedly tied my crazy hair back into a ponytail, put on some simple makeup, which is just eyeliner and lip gloss, grabbed my day bag, and dashed off to my first class.
"Maya, wait! Where are you going?" Ariel pulled on my arm to stop me from running off to class.
"To class! We're going to be late, Ariel!" I told her in a panic, since both of us have our classes together.
Ariel stared at me and let out a small giggle. "I'm sorry I lied, but class starts in two hours." She looked at me guiltily.
I looked at her like she was a manic, which I'm pretty sure she was seeing that she woke me up when I could have been sleeping!
"Ariel! Are you serious? My sleep!" I cried at her, sulking.
Ariel then grinned widely before saying, "Oh well, since you're already prepared, let's go get breakfast!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After breakfast, a whirlwind of events took place. First we had to rush off to our first lesson, Chemistry, and apparently the professors in Oxvale didn't know or didn't care, that first day of school was supposed to be a really chill day, where everyone does a self-introduction and play ice-breaking games.
Nope. First day of school and Bam! Professors flood you with crazy amounts of information and homework.
Secondly, since our first lesson started at 8 and lunch break was not until 1, I was like a hungry monster even though I had breakfast.
Sue me.
When lunch hour finally came along, no one was happier than I am.
"Finally, done with morning lessons!" I exclaimed as I slumped onto the table. Next to me, Ariel laughed softly as she observed me while Max sat next to Ariel and munched happily on his sandwich.
The whole cafeteria was buzzing with noise. Almost every table was occupied, a big difference from just two days ago. Max and Ariel both laughed at me and comforted me by saying that this was just the beginning. Great.
Everyone around me looked so... expensive.
Most girls carry bags that are branded and as they walked past me, I could smell their expensive perfume. Gosh. Their conversations included talking, or bragging, about the new Burberry bag that's not in the market yet they already have it. Guys were talking about some stock markets that just left me dumbfounded.
Are they not teenagers too?
Just then, it was as if someone gave the silent signal, the whole cafeteria quieted down. Then, from the entrance of the cafeteria strolled in four students, two guys and two girls. They seriously look like vampires, just a tad bit tanner.
Absolute perfection I'd say.
The guy in front of the whole clique looked the most intimidating. He had jet black hair that was styled just the right way that seemed classy yet dangerous. He wore a long coat over the standard school uniform. The look he gave was truly intimidating. His grey eyes set forward, glaring at whoever dared to meet his. He looks just like an angel. My eyes just couldn't leave him.
"Who are they?" I whispered to Ariel. She too, along with the rest of the students, seemed to be star struck by them and made way as they walked across the cafeteria.
"The Nobles! Have I not told you about them?" Ariel finally answered me after chattering began to pick up.
I looked at Ariel strangely before frowning and shaking my head.
"The Nobles consists of only four members and they hardly ever talk to any other students. You see the guy with jet black hair?" Ariel started her story. I nodded.
"That's Alexander Black. He's sort of the leader of The Nobles. Filthy rich, seeing that his family runs the Black Industry. Really bad attitude too. Once, I heard that he kicked a student out of school because she accidentally spilt his drink on him!" She exclaimed. That's it. In my mind, I was already equating Alexander Black as 'MONSTER!'.
"Not only that. Girls here still flock to him even though he's so scary. They're so blind!"
As Ariel finished her sentence, suddenly the whole cafeteria muted again. A student, who had headphones on apparently didn't catch the commotion that was taking place and walked straight into yup, you've guessed it, Alexander Black. It seemed like everyone froze in anticipation to see what he might do next. The guy that bumped into Alexander had really thick glasses on and was reading something on a paper. When he realised what he did, I quickly dropped to his knees in front of Alexander.
"I'm so sorry, Mr Black!" The guy begged him. I frowned at the scene.
Alexander simply looked down at him, before gesturing for a nearby girl student. She timidly handed over her cup of fruit juice over to him. Widening my eyes, I waited for the expected to come. Alexander slowly tipped the cup over and the contents fell all over the guy's head. I gaped at the atrocious act.
When he was done, his whole gang then walked calmly past the guy and settled down in a black round table in the centre of the cafeteria, which I now realised that their table is the only black marble one while the other tables are white marble.
"Wait, is he allowed to do that? I'm pretty sure that's classified as bullying!" I said angrily.
Max sighed and shook his head. "That's how things work. The Nobles control the school by instilling fear amongst the students. Furthermore, Alexander's father essentially built this school seeing the amount of money funded to the Academy annually. So even if any professors or students reported him, he still won't be expelled from the school. They themselves might even get fired or expelled."
I was shocked by this information. What the actual...
"Alexander Black, Anna Kurt, Jessica Dale and Michael Ray – The Nobles. I think, it's best to avoid them as much as possible. If you are enemies of them, you'll be enemies with the whole school." Ariel added on.
As she was speaking, the guy with fruit juice all over his ruined uniform slowly stood up and walked out of the cafeteria with his head down. No one came forward to help him and soon, the cafeteria resumed its buzz once again once The Nobles have settled down in their exclusive table, probably talking about the incident that just happened.
Shaking my head, I cleared my thoughts. That's right. If I want to get through this year peacefully, I shouldn't be involved in all the school drama. Best stay far, far away from them.
