.01 Prologue
PETER PAN
I don't remember much of my childhood, but what I do remember isn't very pleasant. I was an orphanage jumper, you see. After countless attempts at different foster homes, I was labeled as a "nightmare child." Nobody wanted me, but I didn't want anyone either as a matter of fact. That's why I left, never to be seen again, at the age of seven. The world is a terrifying place as an adult, but picture a child, lost in the world with no one. Not even the old lady who would give me stale bread; she doesn't count. It was horrifying, until I stumbled along and found It.Neverland is an island located second star to the right and straight on 'til morning from the Mainland. It's full of adventure and magic. To the North is the Indian Camp. The South is Pirate's Cove where the Jolly Roger floats dully from the laps of the waves hitting its sides. Conveniently, Cannibal Cove resides close to the pirates. They are a tribe of angry, chanting, dark skinned men. They are unlike the Indians in every way except for the color of their skin. The Indians are kind, but not when you steal from them. The tribe at Cannibal Cove are even more brutal than the pirates, but that's because they have no conscious. They do not know better. They have no brains and are so stupid a pirate could even fool them. Mermaid Lagoon and Skull Rock are to the East. Curly spends most of his time at Mermaid Lagoon doing tricks for the mermaids to make them laugh.
Just past Skull Rock and near Mermaid Lagoon is our hideout. That's where we live, where I've lived for hundreds of years in Mainland time. After walking through the jungle for five minutes at a three mile-per-hour pace, there is a tree unlike any other tree you've ever seen. Its roots spread out for yards and its trunk is twisted and large. The branches grow high and cover all the tiny trees beneath its giant wingspan. The leaves are magical and change color depending on their mood. They're red right now, angry because Nibs keeps playing with fire. If you look close enough, there is an opening under one of the roots, right where the trunk starts to rise from the ground. The opening is fit for a child. No adults can fit through a hole that small.
The boys can't remember a time before I found them, before they came to Neverland with me. It's better for them here. It's better for all of us here. Time doesn't really exist here. That's how I believe I've lived for so many lifetimes. The boys come from all different ripples in time. I found them, all four of them. They were like me, lost and alone on the Mainland. But here, here it is safe. You never grow up, there are no adults, everything is perfect in Neverland.
