The Audition

Odalys’ POV

“Vice!!!! Where is my sheet music!! I put it on the piano!” I said, as I put the rest of my stuff in my bag. I looked everywhere and I couldn’t find the piece I wanted to perform today. Today was the big music audition, which I have been waiting for all year. If I won I would get 5,000 dollars, but I didn’t want the money, I wanted the exposure, and Olivice, my 14-year-old idiot of a sister is auditioning too.

After I threw on my skinny jeans, converse and my berklee sweatshirt, I ran to the dining room.

“Mom, have you seen my sheet music?” I said hoping I would find it soon. My mom smiled at me with that heart-warming smile and said, “Odalys, we pre-registered all of your music last week, they have your piece and we practiced last night and you had it from memory remember?” As she told me those words, it all came back to me, and then I quietly laughed at myself for being so stupid. “And don’t forget a healthy breakfast before audition, always” she said with that same look every mother gives, come on we all know that look

“Ok, thanks mom” I said running out the dining room with a piece of bacon and orange

Once I got to school, I went to my locker and grabbed my chem paper, then I went to Olivice’s locker and put a good luck note in it, and ran to my first period class

As I sat down, I noticed my best friend, Darcy was sitting next to my other friend Benny and they looked like they were having a really intimate conversation.

“Hey Guys!” I said, noticing how they were practically sitting on top of each other. Darcy turned to me, gave me a surprised look then finally said “Omigosh, hey!” she ran over to hug me and then scooted her chair closer to my table “ You look different today” she said studying my outfit and my posture. I looked around, then took my phone out and noticed nothing different, except for the fact that I looked a little happy.

“How, different? I have my college sweatshirt on, and a small smile” I said thinking about how different I could possibly be today

“Well first off, I just noticed that your eyes are a memorizing green with a heavenly golden brown, and your natural highlights are showing, and your tan looks like your glowing, your gorgeous, Lys!” Darcy said, clapping

Benny nodded in agreement, “She’s right, I have really hot friends” he said feeling satisfied

I began to feel a little uncomfortable, so I decided to confront them on their position “Umm, so are you guys together,” I said hoping they wouldn’t freak out

They looked at each other, then gave me a face. “No, we are not dating, just making one of my colleagues jealous, because I found out she had a little crush on Benny and she was mean to me, so ya that was it” Darcy said quickly, avoiding my eyes at the end

“So, your big audition is today right?” Benny said nervously

The thought of me auditioning put a huge smile on my face, “Yup, it’s today, I’m nervous, but I’ll do fine ” I said confidently

“ATTENTION!”, my chemistry teacher, Mr. Hurrs said “All, chemistry papers, bring them up!” He said in his over exaggerated French accent

As everyone was shuffling in and out of his or her seats, I noticed a man in a grey suit came to the door. He stepped really quietly and said “GREEN, FRANK and PRAUHL – ARGENT, ODALYS”. Once he said my name I knew my future was about to change, I wanted to win this, I forgot I was in class, and I didn’t notice the grey suit man say my name again, “Ms. Prauhl – Argent, come with me please” he said

*****************************IN THE MUSIC ROOM*****************************

“When I call your name, tell me if we have your music and then step into the black box, once you walk in, check to make sure you have everything you asked for” the woman said

“RICHARDS, PAULINE”-

“ERNEST, YANG”-

“PRAUHL-ARGENT, ODALYS”-

 After she called my name I walked into the black box and let her know that they have my music, I told her that my piano and stool was all that I needed, then I walked on the stage and bowed for the three judges. And I played my heart out…

*************************LUNCH****************************

“So, how did it go?” Darcy asked me, I looked at her worried, “I think I did good, but think about all the other good people that auditioned, and in the other countries, I don’t know darc,” I said hoping I was wrong

I kept on moving in the lunch line, until I finally got a tray

She gave me a small tug and said “ I bet you did great! I mean you’re the only person I know that mastered Beethoven by the time you were 4!”

She was probably right, Darcy is usually right. I wish I was like Darcy, she was smart, like able, she wasn’t the most popular girl in the world but she was ok with that, and she smiled everyday, and she’s really pretty. She has strawberry blonde hair, and hazel eyes and pretty much all the guys fall for her but she doesn’t settle for popularity, she settled for real friends, like me.

I just told myself what ever happens, I did my best and stopped thinking about it. Once I finally got up to the food, Darcy started talking about how all of our friends are suddenly all over Benny, I laughed to myself. She was definitely jealous of them; I just let her ramble while I chose my lunch.

Once we sat down, Benny started telling us about how he’s going on a date on Friday, and how he might start showering from now on.

I gave him one of those ‘You’re an idiot, why would anyone like you’ looks, and continued to eat my vegetable lo mien.

“Lys, can you help me think of an idea for a date” Benny said, looking at me like he was a puppy.

He probably would of asked Darcy because of her romantic streak, but at the moment she looked really upset, because she was biting her carrot so hard, pieces were clocking people in the eyes.

“Benny, just do something simple,” I said “it’s the first date! You don’t want to do something too big, because you will give her the wrong idea, just take her to pizza, ice cream and a walk in the park, romantic, yet subtle” I said, hoping to get him off my back

He smiled, then kissed my head and walked away “Thanks Lys!”

Darcy gave me a small smile “ Is it wrong for me to be jealous, I mean…I”

“Darcy!” I said interrupting her moping “You like him, it’s ok, just find a way to show him, and DON’T GET CRAZY!” I said hugging her, then I realized the results go up after lunch, “Look, Darc, I got to go, but I will text you if I get in!” I said walking out the cafeteria

As I was walking out the cafeteria, I ran into Olivice. “Vice! - Stop running!” I said hoping she would slow down. She stopped and finally caught her breath. “Ok, what’s going on?” I said

“I-, I-, I- We- We got in!!!!!!” She said happily “and I was on my way to tell you but then, we ya”

I didn’t even listen to the last part, I screamed out of joy and picked Olivice up swung her around.

Olivice smiled and said “ Whoa, don’t get all ‘Big Sisters gone wild’ ”. I laughed and “punched” her in the arm, as we walked down the hall.
