All my life I grew up next to my best friend. He originally grew up with my older brother but when I was 5, my brother passed away. My brother, Alex, was 3 years older than me. If I didn't win the rock-paper-scissors battle we had, it would've been me who died. We fought for the middle seat to sit next to my older half sister, Mackenzie. Usually he got the middle seat but this time, I got it, and it saved my life. After that, my brother best friend and I grew closer. He took the spot of Alex. He helped me with pretty much everything and anything! I love him more than anything in the world and he love me.

We grew up together. Went to school together, made each other stronger, happier, and genuinely better people. We grounded each other, making sure neither one of us got too cocky about our abilities. It was a relationship I'll never forget!

One day, on a warm day in 2007, my best friend was drafted to the Major Leagues. Everything changed. I lost my brother. He was drafted to Boston, nearly 1,500 miles from our home town of Fort Lauderdale. That day, we just sat together in an unforgettable silence. He was a 16 year superstar in our home town. Me, I was simply his 13 year old sidekick.

We didn't talk much after that day. We left it up to fate to see if we met again. He went on to the Major Leagues and me, well, I went onto Harvard. I graduated top of my class and valedictorian only to get a job as the Chicago Cubs new General Manager right out of the gates, making history as the 1st female and the youngest GM in the MLB.

Excited? Of course! Nervous? Obviously. Scared? Absolutely.
