A father and daughter walk through
the crisp winter woods on Christmas day
They remark the beautiful nature
and the father every so often calls for the dog
But for the most part
the walk in silence
Sometimes the words never spoken
are most remembered
And so they keep on walking
The girl begins to walk heel-to-toe
her father notices and begins to do the same
He shows her other tactics
He demonstrates them and she copies
"You want to hunt someday, don't ya?" he asks
She nods
And so they keep on walking
As they continue, more ice appears on the path
The father leads a few steps ahead of her
Some steps his daughter copies
other paths she makes her own
Both of their tracks got they to where they're going
Until the ice becomes thick on all sides
The girl's legs slip out from under her
The man tries to help but begins to fall himself
It is the girl's arm that stables him
And then he gets her on her feet again
And so they keep on walking
During their walk, the two walk at different paces
The father leads at the beginning
Then they seem to match each other's tracks for sometime
As they near the car, the daughter leads
"That was a good hike wasn't it girl?"
So she nods again.
"Sure is cold though," he remarks
And so they keep on walking
They arrive home and wait before going in
"Will you be coming in soon?" he asks
"Soon," she says too late for him to hear
She watches him walk inside
He s greeted by old family and friends
She knows one day she'll join them
Not now, but soon
And so she keeps on walking
