 6 years later….

“Helennnnn! Are you ready yet?!”

I looked at myself in the mirror before replying. I see a skinny girl who’s tall and has a great body, she’s wearing a skintight red dress which is low cut and her jet-black hair has been straightened and it’s reaching her waist now. She has a lot of make up on her face and she’s wearing high heels.

She’s beautiful. She’s perfect. She’s fake.

I don’t believe this is me. ‘Cause well it isn’t. They’re making me wear this, this piece of cloth they call a dress! I feel so uncomfortable, so EXPOSED.

“Almost!”

I change out of the dress into a comfortable black t-shirt and jeans, scrub the make-up off, wear more comfortable shoes, a.k.a flip flops and step out of my dressing room after applying a dash of natural pink lip gloss.

“Seriously?! I worked so hard on you Helz!” wailed my friend Jennifer.

“Sorry to disappoint you but I am not going out looking like a slut. And please don’t call me that hell is a damned place.”

“Same old Helz!”

There was some more laughter from my friends on the ‘same old Helz’ before we got into the car and left for the party. I don’t even know why I’m going, it’s not like I have any interest in socializing with my fellow human beings. I’m cool alone, but when you have a best friend who’s the total opposite of you, well let’s just say you get dragged into stuff you never cared about.

“Oh-my-God! Do you have any idea how popular Daniel Williams is? I can’t believe we’re actually going to one of his parties!” exclaimed Emily.

“Williams? The guy who’s always ripping his shirt off in the football games while sweating like a pig?” I asked.

“Seriously Helen, you’re such a killjoy. You ruined a perfectly hot image in my head transforming it into something blehhhh!”

“And dude what’s the point of applying lip gloss when the colour is the colour of your lips?”

“Yeah you should get a little funky Helz.”

I didn’t reply as all of them bombarded me with stupid questions. I don’t get anything about girl talk. I mean it’s just pointless.

It's been six years since what happened at the festival.  And not a day goes back when I don’t think about him. It doesn’t hurt anymore. I just think of it as a childhood crush, a stupid childish promise. I mean we were just little kids. We didn’t know anything then. But then if it were just a small crush, why do I think of it everyday? Why can’t I forget him? Why have I still kept eternity with me all these years?

I’m Helen Parker. I’m sixteen now. I’m pretty, I’ve been told. Guys hit on me everyday in school, all my friends are going out with guys. I’m the only one who doesn’t have any interest in the opposite sex. I’ve never had a boyfriend. I’ve never been kissed. I don’t have crushes. There’s only one guy I think about everyday. Oh how I wish I could get the answers to my questions… why didn’t he come that day? Why didn’t he come any day after that like he promised? Why didn’t he call? Why didn’t he ever try to contact me? But most importantly, how did he forget me????

"Earth to Helen!"

“Huh? What?”

“Why do you keep zoning out on us like that?”

“I-”

“May be little Helen’s finally in lurrrvvvvvee!”

“Oh-my-God wouldn’t that be like the coolest?!”

And just like that they asked me more questions and answered them themselves. Girl talk. And I quote again “pointless”.

So yeah let me introduce you to my friends.

1.       Claire, my best friend well it’s more as I’m her best friend ‘cause she tells me every detail of every day of her life. I just keep to myself and well I like Claire a lot ‘cause she keeps me alive, she’s like a breath of fresh air, bubbly and crazy, so unlike me. She’s the one who drags me out to these parties as well.

2.       Emily. My ‘Oh-my-God’ friend. Every sentence of hers begins with oh-my-God. Only God knows why.

3.       Jennifer. My ‘make-up kit’ friend. She carries the whole kit everywhere she goes. ‘You know just in case.’ She says.

4.       Kevin. My dirty-minded guy friend. Trust him to think about something nasty where no one is expecting it.

5.       And lastly Zac. He’s the cry baby of the group. I mean he acts all buff but really, he’s a scaredy cat and well once he started crying when we were on the roller coaster. It wasn’t even that fast!

Well that’s pretty much it. My crazy group of friends. I’m the sixth and comparatively, the most sane and logical person between them. I’m what keeps them on the ground, without me they’d have floated away doing all sorts of stupid stuff.

So while my girlfriends were doing their girl talk thing, the boys, sitting in front were, well Zac was driving and Kevin was smiling at his cell phone. Wait, ughhh, I knew that smile. Definitely something yucky.

“We’re here!” announced Zac.

All of us looked up simultaneously to see a huge mansion near the beach. Well it was a beach party, we could see it crowded with teens screaming and dancing to the beat. The music was too fricking loud. So it was gonna be a crazy party I hated these kinds of parties.

‘Need to find a good hiding place.’ Signaled my brain almost immediately.

Okay. It was going to be a longggggg night.
