"Hey!" Turn to see my best friend run up to me. I laugh when he drops his books along the way.
"Hey Noah" I sigh and bend down to help him.
"Sorry, guess I was kinda in a hurry" he chuckles and stands back up when after he collects his books.
"Why are you bringing so much home? We didn't even have any homework" I bounce back up, and start walking in the direction of my house.
"Vee, it's high school. There's always something." He jogs to catch up with me.
"I think it's something else"
He gasped and suddenly stopped in his tracks. "That's it!"
"What is what?"
"Gotta blast" he winked and raced off. I take this time and slowly admire him, as he speeds into his house, stopping to open the door. I take another step but I hear something crunch below my foot.
I bend down when I see a white piece of paper stick out. Must be Noah's. I grasp the folded up piece of paper. I start to unfold it, but stop. Another piece of paper falls out of the first sheet. "Odd" I whisper. I pick up the other piece and push it into my jean pocket. I'll read it when I get back. When I arrive at my house I'm alone. It's just me and my dad around here, and he's always working, so it's more like it's just me here. I close the front door and slowly walk over to the most recent family photo, if you consider 2010 recent. I was 11 when my mom died. She was murdered on the night of December 4th, 2010. It's been over 6 years but it feels like it all happened just yesterday. Me and my dad went to get ice cream, but when we came back my mother was lying dead, on the floor. A piece of glass stabbed into her chest. It was the most traumatizing moment in my entire life. Now my dad is cold, even towards me. He won't let anyone in. Other than my friends I have nobody. I lay the photo face down on the table and head upstairs. I change into sweatpants, and then the papers fall out of my jeans. I reach down and pick them up. I quickly unfold them, and reveal what's written on the papers. "Particle Accelerator" I read aloud. "This is the process of blah blah blah....uh wow big words... equations that could kill me... blah blah bl-" I skip through each paper, but then something catches my eye. "Wait what."
I bring the paper closer to my face. "Meta Humans?" I question myself. I walk over to my night stand and grab my phone. I click on the contact and wait for them to pick up.
"Hello?" An unfamiliar voice speaks.
"Uh- hello" I furrow my eyebrows.
"Do you need something? We are kinda busy?" A woman rushes me. "I'm, I'm sorry that came out kinda rude" she laughed. I give a light chuckle and continue with my question.
"This is STAR labs, right?"
"Yes, who is speaking?"
"Oh, my name is Venus Allen. I have a question for you." I introduce myself and plop on my bed.
"Nice to meet you, Venus. I'm Katy. What's your question?"
"Do you know what a particle accelerator is?" I question reading off the paper.
"Uh, nope, sorry. How old are you?" Katy asks.
"I'm 17." I reply
"Still in high school I bet."
"Yeah?" What is she trying to get at? "I'm actually about to graduate. I have 3 more days" why am I telling her this?
"Wow"
"Yeah. Can I come visit you at STAR labs?" I bite my lip, nervous.
"I have to go. Goodbye Venus it was nice talking to you" she quickly hangs up.
"Rude" I remove my phone from my ear. I instantly look down at it again and type in his number.
"Pick up pick up" I whisper to myself.
"Vee! Do you have my papers?" Noah yells through the phone.
"Yeah, some fell out of your books." I continue on "what is the particle accelerator?" I slide on my boots and head back downstairs.
"It's nothing that you need to worry about" he responds as I take my jacket off the hook and put it on. I grab my keys and go outside, walking over to his house.
"Yeah, right. It looks pretty important. It has a lot of equations that I didn't know you could do." What is he hiding?
"Venus don't worry about it! Come give me my papers!" He snaps at me. I stop in my tracks, offended.
"Look Vee, I'm sorry, but I can't lose those papers. As you read, they are pretty important." He softens his voice.
"I want to help you" I opened his door and walked up to his room. His parents are never home either. I come face to face with his room door. I quickly hang up the phone and open his door. "I called STAR labs. They can also help" he looked up at me confused, as he set his phone down on his desk.
"Nobody was supposed to know about this, Venus! Not even STAR Labs." He starts to pace around his neatly organized room, when I sit down on his bed.
"I was just trying to help." I pause, "why can't anyone know?"
"Because I'm not the first one to create the particle accelerator." Noah stops and looks down at me. My eyebrows furrow. "Then who was the first one to make it"
"His name was" he suddenly stops looking confused.
"Noah" I sternly say. "Who created the first one"
"His name was Harrison Wells, but he died after it failed and exploded, Killing a few other people" he says slowly.
"You're not going to make this thing" I scoff and gather all of his papers.
"Venus stop" he grips my wrists stopping me. I squirm trying to get out of his grip, trying not to think about how close we are and how good he smells.
"If you do this, you could also kill people! I thought this looked cool but I change my mind." I start to rip the papers up.
"Venus! Stop, you don't know what you're doing!" He yells collecting the pieces of paper. "That happened forever ago! We have the technology to do it now!"
"In your basement? I don't think so Noah!"
"How'd you kno-"
"I know you have a science lab down there. I just never thought you would use it." I seethe and walk downstairs.
"You're blowing this out of proportion!" He shouts from upstairs.
"I don't want to be apart of a murder!" I'm halfway out of the front door when I hear 4 words that make my stomach drop.
"I'm doing it tonight" my hand tightens around the door knob as I continue walking outside, slamming the door when I'm fully out.
"Well this is just fan-fucking-tasic" I mutter shaking my head, walking across the street to my house. It's now 6pm and I'm on my way to an "emergency science club meeting" I'm not even in science club but Camila convinced me to go with her. I hope Noah won't set off the PA because I cannot handle that, it could kill me. I park between the white lines, hopping out of my car to meet face to face with Camila. "Cheese and rice" I jump back, holding my chest.
"Cheese and rice?" Camila starts laughing. I roll my eyes and lock my car.
"Nice to see you too Cam" I walk inside the creepy looking school. It looks like only two lights are on. We close the doors behind us and walk into the library.
"I feel like a rebel being in here at night" Camila smirks. I look over to her and raise a brow.
"It's depressing" she looks over the smirk fading. "No offense" I laugh as she shoves me.
"Nah but really, thanks for coming with me Vee" I give her a genuine smile as more people show up.
I'm half asleep when a hand shakes me, waking me up. "Wha?" I yawn.
"I need you to go get some papers from the science room on floor B. Is that okay Venus?" Shawn, the head of Science Club, questions me.
"Yeah sure" I get up from the wooden chair and stretch.
"Oh! They're green so they shouldn't be that hard to find." I nod at him but stop when I hear a 'bang' noise.
"Is it storming" they all shook their heads yes. "Well this is great," i thought "creepy school at night and it's storming" I roll my eyes. Making my way through the dark hallways I finally reach Science Room B. I look up through the window on the ceiling. This room was always so weird looking. Rain started dropping on my face. I spotted a hole in the window where a chain was connected to it, which would cause something to close over the window. Seeing a little puddle on the floor I decide to close it. I grab ahold of the chain and start to pull but then I hear more noise coming from outside. "Geez this is a bad storm" I speak out loud. I start to yank on the chain again but I'm immediately thrown back into the shelf of colorful liquids. A bright light shines in my eyes when me and the shelf go crashing down. I try to stand up, but everything goes black.
