Children Of Mystery

1DAWN

     Dawn stared at her cat in fear, amazement, shock, and awe. She had just watched her calico cat jump at least eight feet in the air, landing in Dawn's stuffed animal net as if it were a shelf. She had then proceeded to lie down in the net of stuffed animals, even though it was swinging quite methodically, but that seemed not to bother her. Sunrise was Dawn's cat and she had started acting weirdly which scared Dawn because Sunrise was not a young kitten any more.

Dawn was sitting in front of the computer writing an essay for extra credit when her twin brother Dusk sulked into the living room and over to the couch were his dog Moon was curled up. Dusk pushed the fifty pound Rottweiler onto the floor and sat were it had been, smiling, Dawn turned to face her brother, "what's wrong with you, sour face?", she asked using a nickname that she knew would bother him. He turned to her, his face reminding Dawn of "Grumpy Cat" -the all famous cat that was born with a face which always looked like it was upset.
He frowned as if he was trying to use, "twin telepathy", as her friend April would have said. She asked him once again what was wrong. He explained that he had started to get frequent headaches and that Moon had started to act very oddly. Dawn was thinking of telling him that she was having the same problems and more,but at that moment someone knocked at the door. Moon went barreling to the door barking like a maniac, at the same time Dusk collapsed to the floor hollering. Dawn didn't know what to do so did what she thought was best and knelt to help her brother.
     Dusk started to cry telling his sister about the pain in his body,and at that moment she understood how he felt. Right then she was sucked into a vision. When Dawn was six she had stepped on two nails that went right up her foot giving her pain that she knew would last her days or even weeks no matter what the doctors said.     
     Dawn was suddenly snapped out of the vision when her brother let out a wail worthy enough to breaking her ear drums and she thought that she was lucky to have been half asleep. She got up and raced to the door throwing it open the person there to meet her gave her quite the surprise. There, standing in front of Dawn was April her best friend. She had on the biggest smile Dawn had ever seen, Moon danced around April's feet threatening to make her fall onto the floor. Dawn quickly removed herself out of the doorway to make room for her friend and the hyper dog that followed.
     Dawn, Dusk, and April sat in the living room waiting for Mrs.McDevron to get home so that they could go to the mall and watch "the terrible tragedy" a rate R movie that had come out 3 weeks ago on June twenty seven. Dawn was talking with April when Dusk let out some type of holler and came barreling down the stairs his pale features and gaunt face looking slimmer and paler e fifteen minutes ago which Dawn had never thought possible. Dusk ran to Dawn and told her something that was to good to be true he said, "Dawn, Moon just spoke to me, like, using human speak!", Dawn just looked at her brother in disbelief smiling as his face began to regain its color. " really", she said, "you are fifteen, do you expect me to believe something as stupid and half minded as that? I mean come on how stupid do think I am, plus how do I know if your not just trying to get attention you emo shy guy", she teased, using a phrase for when he did something weird. April frowned looking deep in thought " Dawn don't be so hard on him. Ever since Jane broke up with him you know he hasn't been the same, she was his every thing.", April said , Dawn looked at April wondering why she was being so nice to Dusk. He looked like he was about to say something when their mom walked in. Dawn looked at the clock and saw that their mother had gotten home twenty minutes early. Dawn rose wearily being careful, this was because her mom had never gotten home early just late. She walked over to her mom and helped put away groceries, trying to go fast so at they could get to the movie if her mother said yes and took them.

Dawn sat in the back of the car, April sitting next to her. She looked up from her phone were she had been reading her favorite book "Sun Stepper"(because she couldn't ever finish a TV show but books/series no problem) she turned to April, nudged her shoulder and whispered, " hey, did you think that it was weird at my mom got home early?", April looked at Dawn and nodded so vigorously that Dawn thought the head of her best friend would fly off and out the window. Mrs.McDevron - or as Dawn called her mom - said something and made both girls jump, "so what movie are you guys going to see?", before either girl could respond Dusk jumped in his seat and said, "we are going to go see "the terrible tragedy '' it's rated -" he didn't get to finish because at that moment April yelled, "I want McDonalds!", it made Dawn jump so high she had basically jumped out of her skin. She looked at April and gave her the I love you buddy, but warn me next time face. April gave her a smile the seemed to say "I'm sorry", but wasn't too sincere. Both girls started too laugh as Dusk turned to face them a look of bewilderment in his eyes, he smiled at them and said, " you now, you could have waited till I was done.", both girls just grinned at him and said,"nah.", at the exact same time which was a little weird in Dawn's opinion.

That night Dawn slept restlessly, waking every few hours. She knew what the problem was but she could do nothing about it. The night visions were back and worse than ever. Dawn had no idea what was found on but she knew that the only person she could trust was April, her loyal friend to the end. 

On June eighth, Dawn woke two a new noise, a happy noise, one that she was so happy to hear. Finally, her dad was home and so was her mom, brother, and her. BEST. DAY. EVER. It had been two years since her father had left for the Peace Corps and she was so glad he was here. And then the strangest thing happened Sunrise jumped on her bed and said, " hello Dawn I'm so glad that we can finally talk, you see I would love to go outside earlier than you usually release me.", Dawned gaped at her cat, then, she reached up and knocked on her head as if knocking on a door and said, "hey! Wake up in there I need someone out here I'm loosing it!", her cat cocked its head and lifted itself into the air small angelic wings sprouted from its spine making a snapping noise as they went along growing and grossing Dawn out.
     Dawn gaped at her flying cat, its wings flapping up and down hypnotically making her feel dizzy and slightly sick, almost forcing her to fall over on the floor curl up into  ball form and dye. Sunrise lowered herself down to the bed next to Dawn's feet forcing her to sit up and stare at her magical cat. As she stared Sunrise began to slowly crawl to Dawn's knees staying in sight at all times. She then advanced to Dawn's knee and sat down staying in Dawn's sight all the while. Dawn was confused and terrified, her cat had just flown, spoke to her, and almost hypnotized her. She just hoped it was an accident, and not on porous. She told herself to ignore the cat and go to her father who she hadn't seen in FOREVER at least that's how she felt.
     After getting dressed she raced down the stairs tripping on the last four steps and face planting right at Moon's paws. Dawn raised her head to get a slobbering dog kiss in the face. She smiled at the dog and buried her face in the soft carpet of the hallway. Getting up was harder than she thought, Moon had sat in front of her breathing his nasty breath in her face, "your breath smells like ass.", she said groaning as she rose from the floor. Dawn turned to the dog and pet it as it tried to lick her finger's she smiled at the pure breed and walked down the hall to the living room where her father, mother, and brother were sitting on the couches and love seat. She herself sat on the sofa where her brother had been sprawled, " so" she said, "is something wrong?".
