Shion's POV

The wailing siren of the ambulance still rings in my ears as I sit outside the surgery room. It's not uncommon that someone would attack our house because there are still many that don't approve of me being their leader. Mostly because of my age, but there has never been a time where they would attack someone. Threaten someone, maybe, but actually hurt them? This is the first time, and it's definitely making me feel uneasy.

"Shion, are you okay?" Rikiga asks me as he lets himself sit beside me.

"Yeah..." I say, which is totally not true.

Inukashi seems to see what I'm thinking and she asks a question that surprises me. "Do you want to write Nezumi a letter? You want to see him, right?"

I'm silent for a moment. "How do we even send him the letter? And it's not like he can solve this problem just by being here."

"Haven't you wondered how the letter got here in the first place?" Inukashi asks me. I thought for a moment before realization hits me. Oh right! His rats! "Yeah, his rats. What's his name again? Tsuki... something. Anyways, we can send it through Tsuki..."

"Yo, Tsukiyo," I added. There's no way I can forget those rats' names.

"Right, Tsukiyo. We can send the letter through Tsukiyo. And also, I haven't told you this yet because Nezumi told me not to tell you, but he thinks that the parasite bees are acting up again. He wrote it in another piece of paper that was put together in the same envelope as the letter I gave you."

"What..?" I ask, ignoring the rest of her words from after the "parasite bees are acting up again."

"Well, uh, he did say he was coming back... it's in the letter you have." Inukashi says uncomfortably. "He said he'll tell you the details when you see each other again. He didn't write it in the letter because it was too hard to write in a couple of pages, and that it increases the dangers of... well, other people reading if they found it."

So much is going through my head that I decide to shut down. I guess I'm just really tired, or maybe I just didn't want to deal with anything at all for the moment. I don't quite remember what happened next, but all I remember is me running down the hallway of the hospital and sprinting towards the broken walls, tears running down my face.

The only reason why I know I was punching the wall out of frustration and sadness was because my knuckles are bleeding. And yes, it hurts very much.

I sat on the floor, staring up at the sky, doing nothing while thoughts ran through my head. Unwelcoming thoughts at that, might I add. They're a bit depressing, so I'll leave it up to your imagination.

An hour later, I see Inukashi and Rikiga running towards me after I've started to calm down.

"Are you alright, Shion?" Rikiga asks in a fatherly tone.

"Yeah," I say and take in a deep breath. "I'm fine."

"Good, because the doctors said that you mom survived the surgery. Apparently, the bullet was hard to remove because it was so close to the major organs. Thank God the bullet hadn't been an inch closer, or else your mom might not have made it. Though the doctors did say that if she doesn't wake up soon, her life might be in danger again," Rikiga says. "I always knew she was strong so she won't lose those battles easily."

"Rikiga, that was too much." Inukashi says as she looks at my red eyes and wet cheeks.

Rikiga then turns to me and apologizes. "Sorry."

"No, no, it's okay." I say and try give an encouraging smile which probably looks like I'm about to burst into tears. But I can't. I can't cry until I see Nezumi again. I have to be strong until I see Nezumi. The leader of this city can't be weak; especially not when his mom is in the hospital, fighting for her life. He can't possibly show the citizens that his emotions can be wavered so easily.
