It was November eleventh, eleven eleven as some say, today my roommate Lucy was throwing a party. Eleven eleven parties were a tradition passed on in her family for generations. You invite all of your single friends, who bring another single friend in hope to find their soulmate. She believed in destiny and fate. She believed that the universe had a plan for all of us, I was pretty sure she was crazy. I was desperate though, dorms were not my friend and all the single rooms were taken.I was only allowed to go downstairs if I joined in on the game, the kitchen was downstairs so I attended. I put on my button down and fastened my tie. The chattering of single people hoping to find their soulmate filled the living room.
The night went on and I decided to hold the wall up by not moving from it at all. All of a sudden the crowd seemed to open up and the most beautiful girl I've ever seen was on the other side. Taking the biggest risk of my life I walked over to her, tapping her shoulder. Her blonde hair swung as she turned around.
"Are you today's date because you're a wish come true" I flirted pretending to be smooth
She began to laugh, a laugh that swept me off my feet instantly.
"Kaylee" she smiled shaking my hand
As cheesy as it sounds sparks seemed to fly.
"Andy" I gleamed shaking her hand
We talked for what felt like the whole night. She had the same taste in music and books as I did . She was studying culinary at L'Academie de Cuisine and as I was studying journalism at Towson University. We had so much in common it was kind of scary. By the end of the night I had her number and a date planned for Saturday night.
Lucy gave me an 'I told you so' smile as I walked up the stairs. I fell asleep with the biggest smile on my face.
After classes on Friday, I texted Kaylee to ask when to pick her up tomorrow night for the concert. My friends band was playing in town along with our favorite band Brand New. The best way to impress a girl is being friends with a band, or so I've heard.
I woke up the next morning and got ready. Black jeans and a Brand New jumper was my go to outfit. The clock struck 5 and I drove down to Kaylee's dorm. My friend Viv was standing at the back door waiting for us. Kaylee had the biggest smile on her face, I didn't tell her I knew them. Viv showed us around backstage and introduced us to the other guys in her band. The seven of us hung out around the stage before they had to go to soundcheck. Kaylee and I went back outside to get a bite to eat next door. The show was about to start so we paid our tab and went back. In the forty minutes we were eating I learned so much about this beautiful, intelligent girl. She loved puns and cheesy pick-up lines, which was my specialty.
The show began and she squealed like a little girl at Disney. We had made it up to barricade, thanks to Viv getting us early access. The Everyday Anthem, Viv's band did absolutely incredible as always. As the lights dimmed even lower the crowd began to cheer, chanting the band's name getting louder the more they said it. Brand New opened with one of my favorite songs Seventy Times Seven. This may be the best show I've been to in a while. Everyone around us were singing every word at the top of their lungs. Concerts were always an amazing place for me growing up. Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't began playing, my favorite. I yelled the lyrics even louder.
"YOU'RE THE SMELL BEFORE RAIN,YOU'RE THE BLOOD IN MY VEINS" I sang loudly
The show ended after a few more songs. Kaylee caught a guitar pick and I a setlist. Tonight was an amazing night. I feel bad for doubting Lucy on her traditions and fate. I met an amazing girl who has such a similar taste in, well everything. Deciding to take a risk which is what led us to meet, I kissed her at the door of her dorm. This couldn't have gone any better.
-6 years later-
Hot air balloons yes. Perfect! I have been planning this for months. Besides a concert Kaylee's dream date was to go on hot air balloon, for some reason even after six years I haven't taken her up in one. It was a big night for us,it was the night i was going to turn this beautiful girl into my fiancee. I got dressed up in my suit and pulled at the bowtie like they do in the films. I felt snazzy. I set out her deep purple dress, laying it on our bed next to a letter I wrote to her with the plan for tonight. Carefully stepping on a stool, I felt around for the box. Finally I found it, then shoved it into my pocket. Locking the door I sighed in relief. She would be getting home in ten minutes so, i quickly got in the car and drove to the lot. Waiting on the back of my car thinking about what to say, her car pulled up. She had the biggest grin on her face seeing me in the checked bow tie she'd gotten me for my birthday. We got into the balloon, champagne glasses in hand. Once we got to the highest point I knelt down and pulled out the ring.
"Kaylee Elaine you are the smell before rain, the blood in my veins. Will you make me the luckiest girl in the world by being my wife" I asked quoting 'our song' by Brand New.
"Andrea Louise of course I will" She grinned tears in her eyes.

Yeah so I've decided to do 1000 word short stories every now and then to give me a break and get some ideas for my main stories.I'm sorry I don't have a cover yet. I'm cramming for finals along with make up work. AHG stress.
