“Abbie, I’ll be there in like half an hour I need to shower.” I said into the phone.
“Okay, see ya there!” I had just finished my morning jog and got back home to another missed call from Abbie. She was calling for the fifth time that week, begging me to meet her at a new cafe in Times Square. I was really busy with work and online school so I didn’t have time to see her until today.
I put my phone back in the charger and hopped into my shower. I shampooed and conditioned, scrubbed my body, and shaved, then turned off the water. I stepped out of the shower and quickly grabbed a towel off of the shelf, trying to have my feet not touch the cold ground. I walked to my bedroom and picked out skinny jeans and a basic tshirt. After all, I was only meeting my cousin. I quickly put on the clothes, combed out my curly hair, and put on some mascara and eyeliner. I grabbed my purse and my phone from the charger before heading out the door.
Since the cafe I was meeting my cousin at was only a few streets away, I decided not to take my car; the weather was actually nice today. Plus, I live in New York, and we walk everywhere. I walked for about ten minutes and finally found the cafe. I walked inside and saw Abbie sitting at a booth near the back.
“Brookie I haven’t seen you in forever! My little cousin all grown up and living in New York!" she squealed when she saw me walk to the booth.
"I've missed you so much." I said and pulled her into a hug. Abbie is practically my sister, as I was an only child, so I go to her for everything.
"I missed you too," she said with a smile and motioned for me to sit. "Now, I have something to tell you. Well, two something's. Yeah I know that's a lot to tell but I haven't told you because I didn't know how you'd react and-"
"Abbie, calm down. Just tell me!" I say. She always had the tendency to ramble on.
“Alright… I have a boyfriend!” she said excitedly, “And…”
“And?” Wow. I never thought Abbie would get a boyfriend; in high school all she used to do was sleep around and get drunk.
“And I’m pregnant!” Holy shit. Abbie has a boyfriend and she’s pregnant.
“Wow… I’m happy for you!” Truth is, I don’t think she was ready for all of this. She’s only a sophomore in college! That’s too early to have a kid.
“Thanks, you’re the first person I’ve told!” she exclaimed. “I hope it’s okay, I brought my boyfriend here too, I want you to meet him!”
Oh. “Yeah that’s cool! By the way, when did you guys start dating?” I asked.
“Around three months ago.” There’s the Abbie I know.
“Oh,” is all I say.
We sit there for a few seconds when Abbie gasped, “There he is!”
Oh my god. I’m hoping she’s talking about someone else, but he was the only person walking into the cafe. I saw the tall, curly haired man walking towards us, his green eyes piercing into mine. He walked to the booth, sits down next to her and kisses her on the cheek.
“Hi, I’m Harry.” He said to me.
Well fuck.
