Skye
I felt my stomach muscles tighten at the sight of the mansion. As we got closer, I felt the need to vomit heighten. I covered my mouth and put a hand over my stomach, feeling as if something was crawling up my throat. Keep calm, you can do this. I tell myself.
"Are you okay, Skye?" John ask, glancing at me through the rear view mirror. I wanted to snap at him for asking such a dumb question, but I nod instead scared that if I did open my mouth I would puke. John leaves it at that, not waiting anything else.
He parks the car and I watch women with beautiful dresses and men with tux walk into the mansion. I notice children were walking alongside some women, making my heart drop. Why would children be here? Why would these people bring their children?
"Skye." John says, snapping me out of my trance. I look at John and see him with the little microphone Giovanni told me that would be on my dress. He also told me that him and Ferro would be able to hear everything, but I wouldn't be able to hear them.
"Do you know how to put it on?" I shake my head, looking John directly in the eyes. He sighs, but leans forward putting the wireless microphone on the sleeve of my red dress. He made sure it would be hidden away from Benvenvto's -the leader of the other gang- eyesight. John nods his head with a small satisfied grin.
He looks up at me before telling me good luck. I force a smile, before opening the door. I hesitate for a second, before stepping out of the car. I close the door, feeling John's eyes watch me as I make my way to the door with the invitation in my hand. I wish John could go with me, but I knew members of the opposing gang would recognize him.
As I made my way up the stairs, people were staring at me and whispering to each other. I didn't know if that was a good sign or bad sign, but I continued ignoring all of the stares and whispers. I finally stood in front of the door where two large, tall, scary men stand. Their eyes were hooded and a permanent scowl was on their face.
"Invitation." One of them says in a deep voice. I flinch, but pull out the invitation from the gold clutch Giovanni gave to me before I left. The man looks over it closely, before nodding in acceptance. "You're free to go in." I mumble a small thanks as he holds the door open.
The inside was just as extravagant as the mansion, but I didn't have time to stare. I needed to find Benvenvto, so I could get out of here as soon as possible. It was a beautiful house, but I didn't feel safe in it whatsoever. These men would kill me if they knew what I was here for.
I stay behind people, following behind them not entirely sure where the ballroom was. My stomach began to tighten again and I take a deep breath. Calm down. It'll go well...hopefully. My mind began to race with a million scenarios, all bad. I shake my head, trying to get rid of those thoughts.
Looking straight ahead, I finally turn into the room where all the others went. I instantly knew I was in the right room. Tables were set up along the sides and a long table at the far end of the ballroom. A band and piano sat in front of the long table on the right side. A bar sat in the far left corner in front of the room. People were conversing and only a few couples were dancing. Children were running around with bright smiles on their face, oblivious to what half these people in the room are part of.
I search through the faces, trying to find the one male face I was here for. I finally find him standing with a group surrounded around him. I didn't want to just walk over there and act as if I knew these people or what they were taking about. As I try to think of what I was going to do, I felt eyes on me. I look over, meeting dark blue eyes that belonged to the man I was here for.
A flirtatious smile makes its way to my face as I stare at him. He was definitely a handsome man, but that made him more dangerous. I turn away fast, knowing I had his attention already and make my way to the bar.
The bartender ask me what I want to drink and I tell him a classic martini. I wait for him to ask for my id, but he never bothers. Just makes the drink and hands it over to me. I smile at him, before a tap on my shoulder makes me turn away from the bartender.
I look up, meeting the dark blue eyes of Benvenvto. The leader of the opposing gang. The man I'm suppose to help Giovanni take down.
"I don't think I've ever seen your beautiful self around." He says, flirtatiously. I smile, leaning my elbow against the bar.
"Well this is your house, so I don't think you would exactly see me around here." I say lightly, making sure I didn't offend him as I said this. In my surprise, I receive a chuckle. His eyes sparkled, making me lose myself for a second before I remind myself that this a dangerous man that would kill me instantly if he knew why I was actually here.
"Beautiful and charming." He says, a smirk spreading across face. A blush creeps up my face and I just smile at him politely. "I'm Benvenvto Salvagno as you probably know already, call me Ben though. What's your name, gorgeous?"
"Mia Johnson." I say, giving him the fake name Giovanni told me to use. Ben's eyebrows furrow together and a frown falls upon his face as he stares at me closely. His dark blue eyes analyze my face. "Is there something on my face?" I ask, touching my face. I needed him to quit staring at me because I had a feeling he might know who I am.
He shakes his head with a small smirk gracing his lips once again. "No. You just look like someone I've seen before...but that's not possible." He says, mumbling the last part.
Someone walks up to us, speaking as soon as he stood in front of both Ben and I. "Sorry for interrupting sir, but dinner is ready to be served and the guest await your speech." Ben nods, waving the man is a dismissive way. The man leaves right away, as Ben turns toward me.
"Would you like to sit with me at the head table Miss. Johnson?" He ask, looking me right in eye. I nod, smiling.
"I would be honored Mr. Salvagno." His smirk never leaves his face, but I notice his eyes darken slightly. I didn't know if that was a good or bad sign, but I didn't have to time to think about it as Ben dragged me towards the long table.
"Move." He demands harshly to a slim woman. She looks up at him, ready to snap at the person that's telling her to move before she realizes who it was. A flirty smile sneaks across her face as she stares up at Ben.
"But baby, I thought you wanted me to sit here." He rolls his eyes and I see her flinch, but she shakes it off looking up at Ben with hopeful eyes.
"Not anymore. Now fucking move before I do something about it." The girl instantly gets up, standing there awkwardly not knowing where to go. Ben pulls the chair out, nodding at me to sit as I just stare at him unsure. I do so, looking up at the girl as she huffs behind me.
"You wanted me to move just because she needs a place to sit." She says in disgust.
Ben turns toward her with a glare that would kill. "Would you like to say what you fucking said again?" He says in a threatening tone. She flinches, shaking her head. A smirk crosses his face, but his eyes were still dark. "Good. Now find another spot." She nods, leaving the table quickly.
Ben sits down and smiles at me, before looking around the room. He holds up a glass of champagne and everyone immediately do the same thing. "For taking one of Giovanni's main house. May we continue to bring down his gang one by one." The people cheer around him and drink their champagne. I do the same just thinking to myself.
I'm fucked if Benvenvto finds out why I'm actually here.
