It was a long, boring drive to North Carolina from my hometown in Iowa. My father had gotten the new job he had been waiting to get for a few months, me having to leave behind all my friends and in my senior year of highschool too was dreading the job to go through, but of course I didn't want to be the one being rude about us having a better life because of his better pay, but who wouldn't secretly be pissed about it? I mean, I had lived in Mason City my entire life, then having to suddenly leave everyone I care about to start some new crappy school knowing nobody in my senior year really sucks, but whatever, nothing I could do about it now. We had arrived in the new city of Cary at the new place around 6pm. I got out of the car and stared at the house, it was big, victorian, and looked like nobody had lived in it for years. "Just think what it'll look like with some touch ups, eh, kids?!" My dad said smiling as he kissed my mother. I groaned quitley but with my mothers hawk ears she had heard me anyway. "Melanie please, have a little sense of adventure with this move." I rolled my eyes and got my bags out of the car, my sister Kenadee ran past me yelling "I get first room pick!" I ran after her, does she really think she gets to pick her room before me? Oh please. I raced her up two flights of stars and we ran in to the same giant open room with a huge window facing out towards Lake Johnson. "I call this room." I said. "I got in her first! This is my room!." Kena yelled back. "Listen, twirp. I'm older, this is my room, now shoo." "You're two years older, big whoop, Mel." "Two years of life lived longer than you." She stormed out and got the room across from mine. I set my bags on my bed and stared out into the lake. I felt myself become drawn to it, almost as if I was being dragged into it.
"Melanie.' I jumped. It was my dad standing in the doorway with Kenadee standing next to him.
"Why so jumpy,kiddo?"
"Oh, um, you just scared me."
"Sorry, hun. Well a little birdy told me you were already fighting with your sister, try and keep it positve, please."
"Ok, dad."
"Thank you, Mel, love you honey."
"I love you too, Dad."
I slumped onto my bed and sighed. "Ugh. School is going to suck." I thought to myself. I sat back up and ran downstairs to get the rest of my things to put in my room until the moving truck showed up with the rest tomorrow.
