'Demi...' He says softly as she tilts her head back against the sofa and sighs.
'I know.' She replies quietly.
'I love you so much, nena. You are quite possibly one of, no the strongest person I've ever met and I know that whoever you end up with will be the luckiest man in the world because you, my love, are simply amazing.' He says as tears fill her eyes.
'We've been trying for so long to make this work... Why can't we make it work? I love you and you love me, why can't things be simple?' She asks using her thumb to wipe her cheeks.
'People change and you've grown so much since I first met you. I am so proud of the person you've become, Dems. Sometimes people meet at the wrong time and maybe in a few months or years we'll meet and suddenly it'll all make sense...' He says reaching for her hand.
'But we're just not ready for that yet. We've been trying to make this work and it just isn't happening so we need stop now before we get too far gone and we hate each other.' He adds.
'I so badly wanted this to work.' She admits and he nods his head.
'So did I. I don't want to hurt you, Dems.' He says wiping her cheeks with his free hand.
'Neither of us can carry on like this, Wilmer. It isn't fair on anyone.' She replies as tears fill his eyes.
'Do you know what I want you to do? I want you to go on tour with Nick and have the time of your life. Do everything you want to do and if you meet someone who makes you happy please don't let me stop you from being with him? If we are truly meant to be together we'll find our way back to each other, won't we?' He asks and she nods her head.
'W-What if...' She begins glancing down at her wrists before he gently squeezes her hand.
'If you need me I'm still going to be here. I'll always be here for you. You can phone me whenever you need to and I'll pick up.' He says.
'H-How do I do this without you?' She asks biting her bottom lip in an attempt to stop the sobs.
'I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out how to do this without you but I think that's part of our problem. We've become so dependent on each other, Demi. Maybe we just need to learn to live on our own.' He replies.
_______
'Demi?' He asks making his way into the bathroom where he finds her sitting with her back against the bathtub; her knees are pulled up to her chest as she quietly sobs into her hands.
'Oh, nena... It's for the best.' He says quietly as he bends down beside her and pulls her into his arms.
'I know. Doesn't mean it hurts any less.' She replies. Shaking his head he places a kiss on top of her head before sighing.
'Just because we didn't work out doesn't mean you weren't the best thing that ever happened to me.' He says and she glances up at him; her beautiful eyes glossy and filled with pain.
'You saved my life, Wilmer. I wouldn't be alive without you and I will forever be grateful that I met you.' She replies wiping a tear off his cheek.
'No regrets?' He asks and she shrugs her shoulders.
'Just that we couldn't make it work but I'm so glad we tried.' She replies.
'Me too.' He says quietly.
'Promise me one thing?' She asks and he nods his head for her to continue.
'Promise you won't forget about me?' She whispers.
'How could I ever forget my beautiful, brave warrior.' He says sadly.
